Saturday afternoon, the 15th of September, I was trimming the roses without gloves. (couldn't find them). Needless to say, I cut the heck out of my hands. This morning, all but the worst of the cuts has nearly healed. No infections, no slow to heal. What gives? A couple of you know the answer to this (and don't need to answer), but most of you don't. Who wants to give it a shot?

My father in law is type 2diabetic. His doctor has told him not to eat any simple carbohydrates. He's only allowed to eat meat and vegetables, and as a result, he's lost a lot of weight, and he keeps on losing.
Is it necessary for him to be on such a strict diet? Any suggestion on anything else he could eat, possibly with higher calories?
Please I'd like advice from people who have experience on the subject. T
Thanks in advance.

Have a few questions everyone. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about a year ago. I am not on insulin, but I am taking Metformin. I have changed my diet drastically, cut out all processed foods, eat low carbs, avoid candy, cakes, etc, eat fresh vegetables, lean meats, just totally trying to eat healhy. My sugar levels are doing great and I have lost weight and exercise. I know that fruits do have sugar in them, but I thought it was okay to eat fresh fruits because from what I have been told that is a "natural sugar". What is a "natural sugar" anyway? I have recently been told that I should not eat fresh fruits (was not told this by a doctor by the way). Is it okay to have fresh fruits? Also should I avoid diet soda with diabetes? Fresh fruits are like a treat to me now. Please help, I am confused and want to learn more. Any tips to help me out are appreciated. I thank you in advance for your answers.

I have type II diabetes and my insurance doesn't pay hardly anything. My co pays are out the roof and we make too much money to get assistance. I haven't been to a doctor in over two years or had any meds, or chem strips. My insurance company said I should give my self injections since insulin can be purchased over the counter, but I,ve only ever taken pills. Is there a safe guideline to do this? I'm having problems with my feet and I know my sugar is sky high. I really need advise.

My dad recently had an ischemic stroke (2 months ago)He is a Type II diabetic also. Ever since his stroke, we've been monitoring his blood sugar level for him. In the last 3 days, he's been looking more tired. He's lost his energy when he tries to walk. We took him to the ER and the doctors said its probably low blood sugar thats occuring over night. So, check his blood sugar at 6 oclock and it shows 145. No insulin shot is given. We give him his dinner. We check his blood sugar again at 10pm. Its 110. He sleeps through the night and its back to 145 again. Whats going on? Its been shooting up overnight. Is his body digesting the food really slow? i mean..if it is, wouldn't be high 3 hours after his meal when we check his blood sugar level again at 10pm?

My sister is type 2 and she does not watch her diet like she should. She lives with me, so I see how she eats. I don't like to remind her that she shouldn't be eating that, because when I do she flys off the handle and tells me to myob. But she is living in MY house and I love her so much, I know what she is eating is hurting her. She is borderline right now, her dr told her might have to start insulin bc her sugar levels are so high - 315 at highest. I am even following the diabetic diet - I am not diabetic - just to eat right, and she turns her nose up when I make us dinner.
What should I do? Let her make her own meals? She just isn't watching her diet. I'm worried about her.

I'm not diabetic or overweight, and I do my best to eat a healthy diet. However, the one BIG risk factor I have is that my father has it, and it tends to run in my family.

I've had normal BS levels as long as I could remember now, and so far have had no symptoms. I monitor my fasting blood sugar on my own about every month or two(using my father's equipment) and get it checked during my annual physical. Is this enough to monitor it properly, or am I doing something wrong?

Also, any advice on delaying the onset of diabetes as far as I can? I'm already trying to be active, keeping my weight in check and eating healthy, but is there anything else I can do? I plan on enlisting in the military in a few years, so I need to be in my top condition.

I am taking several prescribed meds from a Neurologist and I have had rather decent control of my diabetes over the last 20 years. I am looking for a non-conventional treatment. Do any of you have suggestions? Please give whatever references that you can. I will research whatever route you give me. Thank you all for the assistance! Have a wonderful weekend.

I'm getting new insulin pump soon. I have selected the Minimed Paradigm 722. This pump will best suit my lifestyle. I'm also getting the CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) that is an option for the 722.

Any other users out there? What do you think of the 722? I have done my research and this pump will just be the best one for me.

My current (first and so far, only) pump is an 8 year old Minimed 508 that, while it works okay, is due for replacement. The warranty is long gone and it does have a couple of problems (does not hold memory when changing batteries, does not hold power as long as it used to, buttons are hard to push...it's just wearing out).

In the event that my insurance will not cover the CGM, I will get the glucose meter that goes with that pump so the results can be transmitted to the pump for more accurate dosing).

I'd like some opinions. Even if you use another pump brand, I'd like to hear about experiences with them...good or bad.
