I have type II diabetes and my insurance doesn't pay hardly anything. My co pays are out the roof and we make too much money to get assistance. I haven't been to a doctor in over two years or had any meds, or chem strips. My insurance company said I should give my self injections since insulin can be purchased over the counter, but I,ve only ever taken pills. Is there a safe guideline to do this? I'm having problems with my feet and I know my sugar is sky high. I really need advise.

I would never take insulin without consulting with your doctor first. It's just to dangerous. Your doctor can tell you how much insulin you should inject and what type of insulin you need to use...

Not something you just want to play the guessing game with.

What do you mean by chem strips? Testing strips?

Type 11 diabetics are normally treated with pills. Your are jeopardizing your health by not monitoring your blood sugar on a daily basis. Extremities such as your feet are the most likely to be affected by high blood sugar, amputations are frequent in diabetics. Make an appointment with a doctor at once, he will prescribe pills to control the sugar levels, these pills are not expensive. Eat small amounts for each meal and never skip a meal, stay away from foods that contain sugar and never drink regular soft drinks. You will regret it if you don't this advice.

you are risking your life by not seeing a doctor. blindness, kidney failure, neuropathy, death are what you are risking. Go to the doctor at least 2 times a yr and maybe they can get you some strips and meds.If you smoke or go out and have a few drinks or see shows than you can go see a doctor and get meds.Between my husband and myself we spend 4thousand dollars a yr on meds and we have med insurance. I would rather eat 2 meals a day than not take the meds for us. They keep us alive.

there are places to go for help besides social services.

go to the doctor!! tell him that you cannot afford the meds or the test strips.

Your alternative is to loose your feet, probably your fingers and your eyes.

darn it!! you need to take better care of yourself or you will be losing very valuable parts of yourself!!
