I think there are billions peoples in this world are having diabetics. There are about one million or more citizens in Hong Kong ( 6 and one half a million population) are having diabetics. The ages are getting younger and the recent report shows some school kids aged 14 and up are diagnosed with type 2 diabetics. I think the unhealthy diets is the main reason of making more peoples getting diabetics. My father was a type 2 person, aged 59. He controlled his sugar level well by not taking greasy food and keep on drinking the bittergrunrd (bitter mellon) tea once a day. He take strong coffee mostly black on a daily basis and water mellon ( I suggest you don't eat this fruit) is his favorite fruit too. He keep fit by playing table tennis and he get his blood sugar all pass in any clinic in Hong Kong. I think pregnancy also a reason to cause diabetics, as many medical publications described. I think your best bet is to take more fabric and vegetable diets and small portion of lean meat and small portion of sea food is good for you too. Most fruits are contained great amount of sugar (glucose) and you try to take little some on a daily basis, such as orange, banana, or apple.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is learn about diabetes and get it under control. It is a progressive disease so the sooner you do the sooner you keep all your parts. I do know that many women get gestational diabetes while pregnant so I am assuming it may be harder to control while pregnant. It's very serious so head for your doctor and get the facts. Also spend some time researching diabetes on the internet so that you know what you are dealing with and learn how to control it. What works for one person may not be the best way for another. If the doctor does not help you get your diabetes under control- an A1c of 7.0 or less-get another doctor. I went to a doctor that just kept telling me to eat less. Yes, that helps but since eating is a problem for me and why I probably got diabetes, it isn't that simple for me. Diabetes gets harder to control as you get older-because it's progressive and you've had it longer. If they tell you eating properly will control it, try very hard to do just that. You will slow down the disease and since you are very young you want to be careful so that you are there for your baby. Good luck. Get in the habit of checking your sugar level and check it often. It's the only way to know if you're in control. Be sure your doctor tells you how to get your sugar down if it's high. It's lots and lots of work but worth it.

You need to control your glucose level before you try to get pregnant. As long as you are under a doctor's supervision and are on a controlled diet, you will be fine. I have a friend who had type 2 diabetes and delivered a healthy little girl. It was a struggle because the things she craved during the pregnancy was things she couldn't have. Also, she was closely monitored by her doctor and she had to take daily glucose tests to ensure her levels were fine.

I was diagnosed Type I when I was 19 years old....When I hit your age, I had the Baby Bug like you wouldn't believe. I worked with my doctors (all of them) to get my BS under as tight control as possible before I got pregnant. I will be honest, it was a challenging pregnancy. I wish I had been on my insulin pump before I got pregnant. My son was born a month early but he did very well and is healthy today (he's 10 now)....just make sure you work with your doctors, that is the best advice I can give.....good luck!

Uncontrolled diabetes can affect a developing fetus, especially in the early stages and it can affect you greatly throughout the entire pregnancy. You need to be healthy first before you should even consider attempting to have a baby. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and I am in the process of adjusting my insulin so I have tighter control. I want very much to have a baby but I know how important good control is for both of us. Please work with your doctors to get your health straightened out first.
