I had had a baked chicken and potato and salad dinner the night before, with a very sweet dessert. I heard this was too low and I've been feeling a bit sluggish lately. I have a physical scheduled for next week, but I wanted to some feedback now. Thanks everyone.

Thankyou for all your answers.
But I would like just a simple answer....
My mother has been diabetic ( injections) for more than 30 years and basically has the diet side undercontrol.
Now I have convinced her to eat more I feel we have more lee-way being "over" rather than under. As under means passing out.( At 86 and still living alone, not really ideal)
I would like her to be between 7 and 10 so she has more time to take some lucozade before going 'funny'.
What are the short term effects of going too far "over" 15/25 So I can tell her what symptoms to look out for.
Thanks again D.

I'm type 2 diabetic, taking insulin. I asked my doctor to switch me off Metformin; because I was having severe intestinal gas.
He switched me to Actos, which has stopped the gas problem.
My blood glucose readings have improved markedly; but I have gained weight rapidly in the elapsed month.
My feeling is that this is due to increased water retention.
Have others experienced similar side-effects?
What did you do about it?

I know I have diabetes, but I haven't experienced the full blast of it. I'm at work now and just a minute ago, I got the shakes, my heart was pounding and I got hot really quick. Is that normal for High or Low sugar? No headaches, blurred vision or anything. I know the last time my sugar got low, it was counted at 40 on the tester, and I had a headache, I was tired and shaking, but I'm sitting here with chinese food and a VAULT Soda. Could it be high blood sugar??

My doctor said I have a problem with low blood sugar. I don't eat a lot of sweets or fruit. Soda may be my weakness. But he gave me insulin anyway, just incase my sugar get's high. And I think I've taken maybe 4 shots for the past couple of months because when I did it on a daily basis like it was prescribed to me, I constantly had low blood sugar levels.

I just need your input. Thanks in Advance.

I know when ones sugar levels drop to 2.4 or 3 one goes into a diabetic coma.... The 'normal' is 5 to 7 more or less.
When one goes over to 15 to 30 for example what are the possible consequenses. I'm asking this question because my mother is a diabetic and she always trys to keep her level down to a minimum.... The result is that if she misses one biscuit at the wrong time she goes out//// which is a problem because she's 86 and the last time she fractured her hip after falling over.
I'm trying to convince her eat more and go more over the top because at least that way she wont pass out. Also the Doctors keep "experimenting" with her does's.... which doesn't help matters.... but I feel they are just trying to get "thier" graph's perfect.... and not worry if she pass'es out. thanks in advance D;

My dad has diabetes and he's a welder. He has trouble finding work boots that don't take a toll on his feet. Is there a place that sells a good variety of steel toe boots that provide the cushioning a diabetic needs? I did a web search and found a few sites that carried a few but they were all lace up boots which are not what my dad had in mind. Maybe I'm not doing the right search or maybe there's a retailer who provides this. Anyway, I'd be very thankful.

My doctor told me that I had borderline diabetes which can be managed by my diet. I know to stay away from candy, cakes, cookies etc. But, can I have fruit? Someone told me to avoid.
cereals? Carbs? I really need a good guide to what foods I can eat. A one day meal plan would be really helpful.

I've talked to over 100 brokers and cannot find ANY health insurance. I live in Arkansas. I am a childhood diabetic. I cannot afford to buy the insulin that I need. If I do not have health insurance that will pay for at least 1/2 of my insulin then I will die by March. Medicaid is not an option - there is a year long waiting list. I can pay up to $500 a month for insurance. But $500 will not cover the cost of my insulin (which is $92 a bottle) for a month. I've contacted broker after broker, the state, and various insurance companies. The insurance at my local university will not cover me for a year (and will only pay $1000 in prescriptions anyway) because of my "preexisting condition". Is there anything that will help me?

Do you think that diabetes will ever be cured? And if so, how and when? A friend of mine has had diabetes all his life and I feel sorry for him, so I decided to ask this question to see what people think.

I had blood work taken and found out that I have slightly low blood sugar. My doctor suggested that I make an appointment with a nutritionist and have her explain to me what types of foods i should be eating and when to eat them.

My insurance ran out (I was on a state plan, but because of my age they dropped me - i'm 20 years old) I have not yet gotten new insurance - my mother is in the process of finding insurance for the whole family. So I will no be able to go to the nutritionist until I have insurance.

I think that my body is probably craving sweets becuase of my low blood sugar! However I also know that if I eat sugar it will raise my blood sugar and then drop it.

Until I am able to see a professional, what kind of foods should I be eating to avoid these cravings and keep my sugar steady?
