I'm type 2 diabetic, taking insulin. I asked my doctor to switch me off Metformin; because I was having severe intestinal gas.
He switched me to Actos, which has stopped the gas problem.
My blood glucose readings have improved markedly; but I have gained weight rapidly in the elapsed month.
My feeling is that this is due to increased water retention.
Have others experienced similar side-effects?
What did you do about it?

best to see gp about this one, metformin is drug of choice as in the gold standard or first line treatment, its proven to cause weight lost in type two, whereas actos weight neutral and studies have shown it to have cardiovascular sideffects such as heart failure which a symptom is water retention and heart attacks etc
best bet make appointment see Gp

i am going from actors and insulin to a new pill jun via and deforming combined in one pill. Actors has been given a black box for possible cardiac problems. I gained weight on actos.

If your doctor gives you the pill ask him about the cardiac side affect, if he said it is ok, or maybe he will give you a water pill to help get rid of some of the fluid you are retaining (if this is a problem, it was with me), it is your doctor and if you trust your doctor you make the decision on weather you are to take the pill or not not anyone else I trust my doc I do what he tells me but i also question him and tell him what i hear from others and let him know when something scares me good luck

Hi Robert,
These are the common side effects of using Actos:
Headache, hypoglycemia, muscle aches, respiratory tract infection, sinus inflammation, sore throat, swelling, tooth disorder.
In rare instances, Actos causes swelling and fluid retention that can lead to congestive heart failure. If you develop symptoms that signal the problem—such as shortness of breath, fatigue, or weight gain—you should check with your doctor immediately; the drug will probably have to be discontinued. The problem is more likely when Actos is taken in combination with insulin.

I hope this information will help you, I have cleared it with my Uncle who is a pharmacist and he has recommanded that you go see your doctor right away. Good Luck

That is the side effect of Actos!!! You need to go back to the doctor immediately and try the Metformin again. But this time use Gas-X or Beeno or something with it.

Edema is not a fun side effect. It causes your heart to swell too and your eyes!!! Yes, be scared!!! It has caused me a heart murmur and repeated trips to the cardiologist!!!

Run!!! don't walk to the doctor's office, NOW!!!

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/a6JKm

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting

Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men

If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

well, you can take any of the two medicines, they both helps in treating cases but of course, it will depend on your body. Any of the medicines that you feel that is very good on you then you can choose it. i mean is that it only depends on which medicine your body will interact so well. You have to go to the doctor first for you to know if it will be really safe for you to take any of the two and also to help you which of the two will be best for you. also take a look here pharmacyescrow.org/s3941-s-ACTOS ....

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.
