I know I have diabetes, but I haven't experienced the full blast of it. I'm at work now and just a minute ago, I got the shakes, my heart was pounding and I got hot really quick. Is that normal for High or Low sugar? No headaches, blurred vision or anything. I know the last time my sugar got low, it was counted at 40 on the tester, and I had a headache, I was tired and shaking, but I'm sitting here with chinese food and a VAULT Soda. Could it be high blood sugar??
My doctor said I have a problem with low blood sugar. I don't eat a lot of sweets or fruit. Soda may be my weakness. But he gave me insulin anyway, just incase my sugar get's high. And I think I've taken maybe 4 shots for the past couple of months because when I did it on a daily basis like it was prescribed to me, I constantly had low blood sugar levels.
I just need your input. Thanks in Advance.

So far, Thank you everyone. I did only see a family doctor. He did not provide me with a tester. I don't have the money for the strips. I do test at home because my father is a diabetic, but I don't have one myself to bring to work. I usually don' t have this problem. It was just really scary today.
I'm ok now, I guess it was low, because I drunk about 1/3 of my Vault and I started to feel better. It did remind me that I hadn't eaten anything since about 8am.
I definitely need to see another doctor.

Soda is bad, drink diet soda.
All foods are converted into glucose by the body.
Fats in 6-8 hours or more, Proteins (meat, eggs, beans) in 3-4 hours, and Carbohydrates in 30 minutes. Carbohydrates include starches such as rice, pasta, breads and cereals.
A proper diet will combine fats, carbohydrates, and proteins at each meal, to provide nutrients and create an even release of glucose into the blood. Whole Grain carbohydrates turn into sugar slowly and help keep the blood sugar stable.
Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates. Eat moderate, balanced meals at regular times.

According to my experiences with high blood sugar it sounds like that is what you are experiencing. When my sugar is high I start to sweat and shake and feel a lot of pressure in my face and neck. I don't get headaches or blurry vision - that only happened when I was first diagnosed and had a sugar of 550.
When my blood sugar is low I feel chills and get cold sweats almost. I also get shakey and so tired I can barely move.
Chinese food and sugary soda (expecially Vault which has more sugar than most) are like the worst thing in the world for a diabetic. Chinese food has a lot of sugars, carbs and starches in it as well as sodium. And Vault speaks for itself ;)
I would test your sugar ASAP and then take the amount of insulin your doctor told you to.
My doctor always says if there is the tiniest doubt - TEST.
Hope that helped and Good Luck!!

You need to get a tester, pronto. It sounds like it could be low blood sugar, but as soon as it happens, check your blood sugar. That will be the most reliable way of knowing which it is. Most drug companies will provide a free tester, just because it means you'll be locked into buying their test strips. If you don't have access to this, all drug stores sell them. If you really want a good picture of how your blood sugar is, check it first thing in the morning, 1 hour after a meal, and 2 hours after a meal. It will be lowest first thing in the morning, since you have fasted since the night before, and highest 2 hours after your meal.
Why is your doctor giving you insulin for low blood sugar, anyway? DON'T take it unless your blood sugar is high. It's intended to lower your blood sugar, so unless you consistently have high levels, you shouldn't take insulin.

Why, if you have problems with low blood sugar, did your doctor give you insulin? Insulin is used to lower blood sugar. Do you have any problems with high blood sugar? Just because you are hypoglycemic does not mean that you are hyperglycemic. Is the doctor who prescribed the insulin an internist or endocrinologist? If he is an internist, make an appointment with an endocrinologist. They specialize in diabetes and hypoglycemia.
Did this doctor give you a glucometer? If so, before you treat for either hypo- or hyperglycemia, take your blood sugar so you know which you are treating for. If your doctor did not give you a glucometer, you really need to switch doctors.
Without knowing what your blood sugar is now, there is no way to tell what course of treatment to take.

Get on the internet and read the sypmtoms for high and low blood sugar. This is something you need to know. You should always keep something with you if your sugar goes to low. If you are a Type I diabetic you would be on insulin, But if you are a Type 2 diabetic you should be on oral medicine, unless you have been a diabetic for a long time. Don't drink regular soda. That can really make your sugar high.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

first of all, Don't drink the excessively caffine ladened Vault drink. If you are having problems with low blood sugar, your best bet is to eat regular meals, never skipping breakfast. Stay away from Caffine which can cause shakes, headaches, rapid heartbeat and high blood sugar readings.
If you cannot afford strips, try contacting a diabetes support group or search the web for places that can provide you with strips at a discounted price or for free. Lifestyle who makes the Ultra one test meter have a program you might look into for strip supplies

I have type one Diabetes and when my blood sugar goes low, I think I have some of the same symptoms that you had. I get really hot and I feel shaky. I sometimes get really hyper and can't stop laughing...it's odd, I know. You must have hypoglycemia I think..or do you have type 2 Diabetes? Soda is great to get your blood sugar up when you're low. Otherwise, diet soda is better. People say it tastes bad but you get used to it. Just try to watch out for aspertame, I hear it's really bad for you!

Very interesting question. Your side effects can be both high or low. I would suggest you check your blood sugar first to determine which one. You would not want to give yourself too much insulin if you are low. If high, you should give yourself a dose of insulin.
Please check your blood sugar first before doing anything. Best wishes from another diabetic.

You definitely need to check your blood sugar on a more consistent level, especially now that you are have symptoms. As far as not taking insulin as prescribed, well that's between you and your dr., but you should definitely see him/her again and tell them what's been going on. That's assuming your doctor is an endocrinologist. If they're not, then you need to see one.
