Dental - February 2007

id like to get myself involved with dentistry before i apply to dental school. what types of work would a dentist have me perform if i were to vounteer at an office. obviously i couldnt assist him/her, seeing i dont have any prior experience, but what other types of work could i do?

id appreciate it if someone with this experience, be it an assistant or actual doctor, answer this question, but anyone will do. thanks!

im getting braces on tomorow, and i am the opposite of excited. i got spacers (twice) and the second time they KILLED when i got them on and for the next week. do braces hurt when they get put on? the next week? i dont mind the pain outside of the office, i just cant stand when people are in my mouth AND when it hurts. i already had bands fitted, impressions, and spacers (which i thought were the worst so far..) and im really hoping braces dont hurt when they get put on. somebody please explain that visit when you got yours on? i need some reassurance!

I have had at least 6 other root canals, and never had pain like this after. The therapy was done on tooth number 8 and a post was placed and then filled. 24 hours later, over the counter meds were no longer dulling the pain for more then an hour or 2. My dentist put me on a stronger anti-biotic (clindamycin) which I have taken two doese of thus far. He also gave me naproxen 500mg and vicodin 500mg The pain meds dull my throbbing tooth pain, but dont eleivate it completely. If i touch the tooth with my tongue or bump it against another tooth it shoots a very harsh pain. the pain meds only dull it for a couple hours 2-4. Is any of this normal? Is it healing itself, or is there something more worng?

I have had bad breath all my life. i brush my teeth twice a day for 4 minutes and i floss twice a day too. and i still have bad breath. i have found no solution, can someone tell me if u had this problem but fixed it and how?

I/ve already gotten my 12 year mollers and lost all my baby teeth. I'm 14 and I have teeth growing at the ends of my other teeth [the bottom actually]. Are they my wisdom teeth? If not what r they?

i just went to the densists last month and he said I had no cavities. Now however, my molar farthest back hurts when i bite down really hard (it usually hurts the most when i put my retainer on) and it has a small spot on it. I also just got braces off and a when i put my retainer on tends to hurt the most. My wisdom teeth are also coming in could that have anything to do with the pain because the tooth that hurts is the one right next to my wisdom tooth? Sugars and food do not seem to bother it, it just hurts when i put a lot of pressure on it.

ALSO does any one know of sure ways to tell if it s cavity.

my chin goes in instead of out, and it needs to go out, and when i bite my teeth dont go over the bottom ones. when i get my jaw broken will it affect this? and how long will i need to recover?

I went to the dentist about a week ago, but since then only in the evenings after I eat something my gums feel itchy! In one spot of my mouth it really itches and hurts a little when I brush there! It drives me crazy and I don't understand what it could be! I thought maybe it was a cavity, but it doesn't feel anything like one!

i went to the dentist the other day, and found out that i have my FIRST cavity. Its very small and in the back of my mouth. Im slightly anxious and would like to know the procedure (simple please!) and if it is painful at all. Thanks!

I have noticed that I my gums are white and sort of swollen (near my back molars). Also, I have maybe one or two blood blisters on the sides of my inner cheeks. Should I be concerned? Is this cancer? Just an FYI - and not to be digusting - I don't have the best oral hygiene habits.

I'm scared because I read on here that it could go septic. The question is, I just started my antibiotics, am I safe from infection going into my bloodstream? How Long does it take for the antibiotic to START WORKING??

My parents never got me braces due to financial issues, but now that I'm older I hate my teeth. They aren't too bad, but I have a serious overbite (not one that sticks out of the mouth though) and my bottom row is a little crowded. I want to have straight teeth, but I don't think that I want full on braces at this point. ARE THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES??

friday i went to the dentist and one of the probelms i had was that i have 3 baby teeth where the permanate tooth is trying to grow they said that if i dont have them out by april ninth then there gonna get pulled out!so ive been wiggling them around and stuff but only 1 is some what loose.are there any ways i can get them out quickly(and hopefully not painfully)i dont want any stupid answers like my parents said like pliers

I have NO bleeding anywhere else and I think my gums are terrific
EXCEPT under my one and only crown ( lower left). I had bleedng between it and the teeth on either side I stopped with flossing and
swishing with listerine and peroxydil-but the gums still bleed easily unde the crown at the gum with gentle soft brush-brushing. I have a theory that if I floss AND BRUSH gently and then swish with listeriine and peroxidyl at bedtime -this will heal on its own BEFORE I see my dentist for a routine checkup in two weeks and he sends me to a perio$$.
Am I right here?

Is there something you can do like take more calcium to grow your tooth back or something like that?

I'm trying to avoid the dentist, that's expensive for me.

HELP.... i would love really really white teeth right... cant go dentist because i've my tongue pierced & they tend to get on ta ya.. plus i cant have the stuff they give me there cos' of a heart complaint. i just need to find a gr8 whitenin paste that wont strip or harm my teeth.

Im getting my wisdom teeth pulled out this tuesday, i know right before Valentine's but i really need to.... Im getting put to sleep to get them out and they have to cut me open because they're not out yet but they are growing out badly and making my teeth all messed up, so how badly does it hurt after i wake up and all the procedures done??
