i just went to the densists last month and he said I had no cavities. Now however, my molar farthest back hurts when i bite down really hard (it usually hurts the most when i put my retainer on) and it has a small spot on it. I also just got braces off and a when i put my retainer on tends to hurt the most. My wisdom teeth are also coming in could that have anything to do with the pain because the tooth that hurts is the one right next to my wisdom tooth? Sugars and food do not seem to bother it, it just hurts when i put a lot of pressure on it.

ALSO does any one know of sure ways to tell if it s cavity.

What you have described does NOT sound like pain from a cavity. Usually, sweet stuff or cold stuff will hurt a cavity.

When your bite changes and your teeth meet in different ways, they can hurt. If it hurts more when you bite down, this is actually diagnostic. Since you mentioned both a retainer and wisdom teeth, I would assume that you have had some minor shifting of your bite and one tooth is now hitting too hard when you bite. If you mention this to your dentist, it is quick, easy and painless to trim the tooth just a bit (like fractions of a millimeter) so it won't hurt when you bite down.

I find that ALL patients who have recently had their braces removed need some limited amount of bite adjustment, by the way.
