i went to the dentist the other day, and found out that i have my FIRST cavity. Its very small and in the back of my mouth. Im slightly anxious and would like to know the procedure (simple please!) and if it is painful at all. Thanks!

God these people like to fluff the answer! I'm 19, had my cavity filled about a month ago. They put novacaine gel on the back of ur mouth to numb the skin, then they take a syringe of novacaine and give u a shot, the pain of the needle is VERY slight, even like hitting ur tooth brush again the back of ur gums. After u go numb, u can't feel the tool they use to drill away at the cavity. Even though i know the process and know its painless i still get anxious all the time. Don't worry, once u get in there, u'll realize its not all painful.

They give you stuff that numbs it. I haven't had a cavity filled for a while now and they it did it differently when I was younger. I don't remember how they did it since I last got one filled around 4 years ago. If they don't give you numbing stuff it might hurt a little. I think I have some cavities but now I have braces so I don't know when I'll get them filled. Last time I went to the dentist ..he wasn't there to check my teeth. That sucked.

No it isn't going to hurt because they will probaby give you some Novacaine or some laughing gas...it makes you feel like you are on air or you are floating. You need to make sure you are able to take either of them. If it is in the very back of your mouth they might just take it out but if it isn't all that bad....nine times out of ten they will try to save it by filling it. If it is a wisdom tooth.....get it taken out. Those can be very painful after some time. I would advise you to make sure that you brush and floss a lot. Get some antiseptic called Dr. Tichenors from Wal-Mart. It is like $4 but it lasts a long time. You need to dilute it or else your mouth will suffer tremendously...I would use that until I could get to the dentist. Even after you get it taken care of Colgate Total is awesome and Dr. Tichenors is really cool. I use both Dr. Tichenors and Listerine. Mainly Dr. Tichenors when my mouth starts to hurt.I even sometimes take the cap from the listerine and put half listerine and half peroxide and swish. That's all that crest whitening is peroxide.
