It might not be worth it. I had a similar problem and got braces, but against my will and it sucked. Ask your dentist to see how bad it really is.

Yes, you should get braces. Braces will correct your crooked teeth and metal braces are not a big deal. If you're an adult, an overbite can only be corrected with surgery. A child's overbite can usually be corrected with dental appliances. That is why children should go to an orthodontist around age 7. Never wait until a child is a teenager or when all their teeth have come in - that is wrong information.

I had braces as an adult. It took 20 months of treatment; my braces have been off for 3 months. Yes, it was worth.

Yes it is. you can get invisible braces, or clip on ones (i think that they are called invisline or something but im not sure). but its totally worth it. the pain when you get them put on is minimal, and the results are amazing when done properly.
they just use glue to attach the brackets (assuming you get the metal ones) and then they slip a band onto your back teeth and then thread a wire through them. for the first 2-5 days your teeth will be sort of sore and will hurt when you brush them, but then after that you can hardly tell that they are there. my daughter had a large space between her 4 front teeth, and braces closed the gap within 2 weeks (however her jaw is growing irregularily and she needed a differnt procedure to fix her bite).
If you are self consious of the crooked teeth and overbite, then yes, i recomend getting the braces, and you wont regret it! but it does not seem like it is affecting your bite that much, so it would not be a problem if you did not get them put on. but keep in mind, tons of people have braces today, and you can put fun colours on the bands :) Its also an easier procedure on younger paitents because they are growing so it is easier to move the teeth around.
However, after you get the braces off, you will have to get a retainer put in for a few months (specified by your orthodontist) just to hold the shape of your mouth while the structure re-adjusts to the recent moving. your orthodontist possibly will even give you the option of differnt colours (and ive heard that some orthodontists can even get pictures into the retainers :-O)
overall, i think that braces are a good choice, but you have to be ready for their responsibility (theres more cleaning involved, and theres some foods you cant eat, sorry). I think that they are a good idea but its entirely up to you.

Braces will give you a perfect smile but it sounds like you don't need them. If you get them it will be for cosmetic reasons unless your bite is causing problems. There are a couple of different ways to do braces depending on how much movement needs to be done and your age. If you go for the standard braces (that's the way I'd go because the result is perfection) they put spacers in about a week before to make room for your bands. When your actual braces go on they clean your teeth really well and cement your brackets to your teeth. Then they put a wire through the brackets and hold them in place with the rubber bands and/or ties. Each time you get them tightened they go to a stronger wire until you have straight teeth. Obviously your teeth are bothering you or you wouldn't be asking this. I say get a consultation with an orthodontist and find out what his recommendation would be. Braces aren't that bad and in the end you'll be glad you did it.

There are two factors to deal with:
#1 the cost: they cost a lot of money (at least a couple thousand I believe)
#2 sacrafice: are you willing to deal with the time period of having them on and not looking your best in order to have the rest of your life with straight teeth?

I say, if you can afford it, get braces. I had them for 3.5 years in middle school-9th grade in high school. It sucked while I had them on, but now I have straight teeth and I couldn't be happier. Nothing beats a great smile, especially one that lasts a lifetime.

To put them on, they use this special adhesive "dentist" glue on your teeth and then put the metal over this. Then they have tools to tighten the braces, which is what forces your teeth to adapt.

Really rather or not you need braces depends more on your bite than aesthetics. You really should ask your dentist next time you are there and schedule a consultation with an orthodontist. (Most ortho offices offer a no-charge first visit!)
Sometimes overbites and be due to the fact your jaw sets further back than it should. And in your 40's that could potentially be a problem. Or it could just be a cosmetic thing. Ask your dentist. :)

I would say get them while you can, the older you get the harder it will be.
It's all worth it afterwords.
