I am a student in the Los Angeles area. I am currently in school taking prerequisites for the Dental Hygiene Program at USC. I just started, so I have a way to go. I have been trying to get a job as a Dental Assistant in the meanwhile, but so far, no luck. I worked at 2 different places as an assistant, and both fired me. They said they don't have time to train. I learned very quickly. I am allready familiar with most of the appliances and setting up/cleaning up. I am also 100% familiar with the sterilization process. I don't want to give up my hopes so I am looking for another job in the field, just to gain experience until I get into the Dental Hygiene Program.

Basically speaking. my question is, how can I get a job as a Dental Assistant (w/out assisting school) and keep it!? What are Dentist's mainly looking for? How can I convince a Dentist that training me would be a good idea and that I really am reliable and a quick-learner and a hard worker??? Please help guys,I'm desperate!

I have recently been told that I need to have my upper wisdom teeth removed, my dentist said he will do the procedure in the dentist chair under local anaestetic. I am seriously not very good about things to do with my teeth and I'm pertified about having the procedure done. I smashed my front tooth in half in an accident earlier this year and it's left me very nervous of anything to do with my teeth. There is no way that I can sit there and have my teeth crunched and cracked whilst I'm concious of it (big wimp I know but the idea of it really freaks me out!).
Does anybody know if I can request to have them removed under general anastetic at the Hospital even though my dentist says he can do them?

Im getting braces tomorrow morning.
1) What should I expect?

2) On a scale of 1-10 how much do they hurt?

3) How long will it take to get used to them?

4) What should I prepare for?

5) Any other advice?

And the ortho is putting on only the top first then the bottom in a month or 2. I dont know why. I'll ask him tomorrow but Im curious lol. And if the ortho said I'll only need braces for about a year, give or take some, is this basically a good estimate? How can I make sure that I have them on as little time as possible?

When I was in my early teens, one of the "sealants" on my back tooth chipped, and kind of lifted up. The dentist didn't fix it for over 3 years (he kept saying "oh it's fine"), but food got trapped under there and it created a very deep cavity. It's my only cavity, by the way, and there was no way for me to prevent it or clean under there. Now, a few years later, I need a root canal because it's been very sensitive to cold and it hurts when I bite down. They (a different and far more comptetant dentists' office) took x-rays and said that there was no infection though. Is there any pain DURING the root canal, or only after (for the next few days)? I ask because a.) I have neurological problems in my neck, spine, and face which causes pain and twitching, and I don't want this to exacerbate it, and b.) I'm severely allergic to pain killers (I'm talking an anaphylactic reaction). I don't want to be in pain with no way to treat it. :( Thanks so much if you can help with this!

I have family that can afford to help, but 4 some reason it's like they thrive on how this humiliates me and it makes me sick because I try and do anything I can 4 the. I am just asking for help because I have run out of options. I have Medicare and Medicaid and I am Disabled. Is there any Dentist out there who has a heart and be willing to help me out? I am not asking this for free, I will pay as much as I can afford if a Dentist could just make a legal agreement for payment and make a payment plan between the Dentist and myself. I know there has got to be someone out there willing to give someone back there confidence about theirself. Thank you for any Dentist that will respond..

I got a tooth pulled today at noon and when the anaesthetic wore off around 4pm the pain was intense, I have taken Ibuprofen twice now but it doesn't seem to be easing the pain. I have stronger painkillers should I try those? I even tried sleeping the pain off, no luck! I feel as if I have toothache on my upper molars now too - is this just a feeling or a problem? Also under my chin is very painful, is this from where the dentist was pushing and wiggling the tooth out? I don't want to call the after hours helpline if I don't need too - I just hate bothering people, well apart from you lot cos I know you are always here for everyone!! Any reasonable/sensible answers would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering... my dentists performed a tooth extraction and a bone graft on the same day. Now my insurance company is denying to cover it because they state the site should have had time to heal first before he bone grafting was done. Is this normal? Did my dentists screw up?

My gums are really swollen around the tooth next to the hole where my wisdom tooth was. I've been really good about rinsing with salt water after meals and brushing/flossing the teeth that I can get to. Is it normal for your gums to swell like that a week and a half after the extraction? My wisdom teeth holes have gone down in swelling... but it's just around this one molar now. Should I just keep taking Motrin to try to reduce the swelling?

I had a cavity filled about a month ago and it was deeper than they thought and they actually ended up drilling into the nerve part a little bit. Now it is extreemly sensitive to hot and cold, especially cold. It is actually quite painful when anything hot or cold touches that tooth. Is there anything I can do to help that tooth not be so sensitive (short of having a root canal, which they did tell me I might have to do because of the depth of the cavity, but only if it develops an ache). I doubt that the toothpaste for sensitive teeth would work on something like this.....has anyone had this problem? What worked for you?

my last wisdom tooth is coming in and all the others came in just fine with plenty of room but this one seem to be hurting more than the others (the others really had no pain). anyways the tooth isnt coming in perfectly straight but the back (back top) of the tooth is a little higher. not so much pain, motrin as worked fine. so do i have to go to dentist or is it ok ?
