THIS ALL DEPENDS ON THE CASE AT HAND, AND ON THE DENTIST AND THE LAB HE USES. THERE ARE DIFFERENT REASONS FOR A VENEER VS. A CROWN.

Definitely crowns are a better choice. Veneers are essentially a patch job. If the color isn't just right, it shows. They also don't last nearly as long and can chip. Crowns are much more secure, durable, and will last longer. A good crown from a reputable lab will be undetectible amongst your other teeth.

It depends on the conditions of your teeth (ie. decay, intrinsic staining, etc). Existing conditions determine the type of restoration/treatment needed. Sometimes a crown is required, sometimes a veneer is recommended.

To answer your question, both veneers and crowns can be made to "look real." For example, cerinate veneers and ceramic crowns can both be customed matched via a 3D scan to your existing teeth, making them look "real."

Both look great in their respective places. Normally, veneers for the front and crowns for the back teeth. If you are considering to cover the problem on front teeth, then crowns would be your best bet.

Do you need it or want it for looks? Research how many people have ended up looseing teeth and got great pain from veneers. You should know crowens are not permanant iether and decay can still hapen under them to.
