i had a root canal done and then a retreatment (well the retreatment didnt get to be finished because when i went for the second part, the rubber dam hurt so bad when he put it around my tooth, so he referred me to the oral surgeon) my tooth has a crown on it. they are going to just numb it up and cut it out while i'm awake. will it hurt because when the endodontist put the rubber dam on my tooth after i was numb, i thought i was going to die....so even though they numb my mouth, will i feel any pain?

Ok, I know that sometimes the dentist does do poor work and it is his fault, ( I have worked for one of those). But so often I hear patients blaming dentists for problems that in reality they caused themselves. I have seen people come into the office with 6 or 7 cavities, many very deep. We drill out the decay as consevatively as possible and place a filling. We warn the patient that there is a chance of a rootcanal in the future, But in a week or 2 the patient comes back claiming that we did something to their tooth. This same type of blame happens with dentures, extractions, crowns, and rootcanals. Instead of gathering information about the specific treatment they recieved, alot of patients listen to family and friends and start yelling "malpractice, Im going to sue". Why are there so many patients that think that dentists are doing something wrong, instead of realizing that dentistry is not an exact science, and things do go wrong?

Hey... I think part of my tooth nerve (one of my front teeth) is exposed. The gum may have been pushed up to expose it... the area is no more than 1mm exposed but if I touch it with a finger nail it's painful. It's not painful to eat on, swill my mouth with water or to brush thank God. Do you think I've just brushed too hard/too often that area and the gum has been pushed up? How can I get the gum back down to cover it?
