Assume you have had a 'minor' stroke, cause diagnosed as 80% blockage in the left 'carrotee',vein ( unsure spelling there)
The operation has a 1% chance of causing a stroke while being performed.
The operation is performed while the patient is just under local anasthetic. The vein which feeds the brain is clamped and the surgeon says that in most cases a stroke will not occour? He needs the patient to be awake during the 'rodding out' of the vein proceedure!
If it does cause a stroke , the clamp is removed and a bypass vein is inserted!!
This is another element of risk!.
So let us assume that if the 'full' operation is needed the chances are a total of 2% of having a fatal stroke. thats 2 chances out of 100 operations of 'snuffing it'!!
The alternative? The surgeon says with an 80% blockage the pateint has a 50/50 chance of having a stroke at any time!
The patatient is male 68 years of age, and all tests have been made to ensure he is 'fit' for the op!!
What would you do??

A few days ago I developed a burning redness on the skin surrounding my penis. I was told that it could be a yeast infection due to a penicillian based antiboitic that I was taking.
Is it ok to put monistat cream on it?

Circumcision of male infants, that is. And also just overall, like of older guys. Do you know anyone who isn't circumcised?

In my human sexuality class, we watched a video on infant circumcision. It showed the baby being strapped down to a "circumstraint", with his legs and arms strapped in. He started crying as the doctor separated his foreskin away from his glans, without any sort of anesthesia. The girls, after the video, said it was sad and that they didn't know they strapped babies down, etc. This other girl and I, realize circumcision makes it cleaner and are all for that, but can't they at least give the babies anesthesia?

I am 18 years old and have been getting my period for 4 years. I get them about every 35-40 days with some variations. They are not very predictable but they are also not WAY off the scale. I have no other known health problems and my periods are otherwise pretty normal. They last about 4-6 days. Is there something wrong?

I tested borderline for lupus twice and I have to continue to be tested every year. Lately I've been feeling terrible. I can't really describe it, but I feel weak, depressed, and I've lost a ton of weight (I'm 5'5 and I weigh 112 now). I had morning classes today and I woke up on time but almost passed out and I didn't feel comfortable leaving the house after that.
I just switched doctors and I don't have my new insurance card yet and I can't go to the doctor until i have it, what is this that I'm feeling?
Could it be stress from college or Lupus "prounouncing itself"?

There always seems to be a gas build up and you have to burp, then. What is it about laying your head on the desk that makes that happen?

I have recently started jogging in the afternoon. Even after one month of jogging the problem of feeling tired persists. I drink plenty of water before jogging but do not take solid food except some biscuits after lunch and before jogging. I jog a distance approx 3km; then walk nearly 3/4km and come back home on a bicycle. I take rest for nearly one hour and take bath. But I feel tired when sit to study in the evening though I force myself and finish some lessons. How can this tiredness be overcome? It is said that jogging should be done at a speed with which one can talk. My speed is however generally more than that and at a point I have to slow down because I cannot continue and then resume jogging. Am I overexerting myself or is there some other problem? I think my feeling of tiredness is a bit more than is expected.
