Hi!
I hope you are feeling better. I have lupus and just weaned off prednisone. I am afraid you might not be able to lose much of the weight, esp. if you keep needing to take the med. I avoid salt like the plague, and force myself to walk just alittle every day I feel able to. And try to limit carbs. I eat what I want, but try hard to limit how much. There really is alot of value in stocking your fridge with veggies and fruit. You can dilute drsg with skim milk or yogurt and still have your munchies, fruit coated in low fat whip sprinkled with nuts adds alot of nutrition to a craving for carbs and sweets. It helps me to put the toaster and butter away before I sit down to eat, that way I am not so tempted to toast "one more piece" Good luck,

If you are still taking the Prednisone is will not be easy to loose the weight since this is a side effect of prednisone. You didn't say why you are on the med but if there is any chance you can taper it to the smallest dose possible or get off of it all together that would be the best route to go. Talk to your doctor about this and have him set up an appointment with the dietician for you to work out a plan.

I also used to be on prednisone also, first ask your doctor if you still need to be on the medicine or if maybe there is another medicine you can take in place of it. Then make sure you exercise everyday, and ask the doctor how many calories you should eat daily. I weighed 180 this time last year, and now I weigh around 125. By exercising everyday and sticking to my calorie limit allowed me to lose all the weight. I seriously hope that this helps you!! Good luck!

Weight gain from steroids is the hardest thing to loose. There is no 'secret' way to do it either. Each time i go on it i gain a little more each time and don't end up loosing it all afterwards but i am on and off it alot . Try to exercise daily and watch your salt and fat intake. Put your self on a diabetic diet. Eat 6 times a day.(healthy, low carb.,no fried foods, plenty veggies, plenty of water, etc.) It's just about all you can do. don't stress over it. that will make it worse.

The weight won't come off until you are off the prednisone. Ask your doctor when you can start reducing your dose. In the meantime, make sure you are exercising regularly (as much as you can depending on your medical condition), and eat a healthy diet (lots of steamed veggies, cooked whole grains, well-done lean meats -- avoid raw foods deli meats and soft cheese since your immune system is impaired).

I went through this. You'll have to diet and exercise just like anything else with weight. Dont' be hard on yourself.

If it upsets you that much, I would talk to your doctor, and see if he can put you on something else.
