My father was tested in prison and said that his hiv results were positive and negative and that that's all they told him.(besides that it was very likely caused by heroin needle sharing). Is this possible? If so what does it mean?
He has also been tested various times throughout his sporadic prison sentences for the past 20 years. I think he said something about getting his AIDS results next week. If this makes any sense at all, can someone give me an answer? Any answer is better than what i now know. He's been in this prison sentence for 1 year and clean for the entire year. Does that make sense medically? If this is the truth, then should my mom get tested if she slept with him a year ago?

It doesn't make sense--some days and/or weeks seem much longer/shorter than others, but each day is 24 hours and each week is 168 hours. Why does this happen?

What are the medical criteria for a person to be pronounced dead? Not brain dead - real dead.

I am in my early 20s and have lived with either bulimia and, or anorexia for almost 10 years. I have recently (4 years ago) found out my grandmother on my fathers side who died of cancer before I was born, was bulimic- though used laxatives (I do not use laxatives), she got stomach cancer which she died from.
I worry alot about this, and would be glad if anyone knows of a conclusive answer to this,
(wish it was enough to push me to stop but it doesnt work like that!)

Hey guys, I have a close buddy of mine and we are both in our 20's. He is quiet and a very nice person and is a funny guy. But latley he seems to be contemplating life and everything and how society works. He is also alot more mellowed out.
He will watch tv and sometimes say things like "Thats sad how materialistic our society is and how it brainwashes people into being like everyone else." He also says "Those people on the ads use pretty women just to get their product they dont care about the person buying it at all, what a crappy world".
I agree with him but it seems to really bother him for some reason. Then he will watch a movie and say something like "That is gonna be me, I will get killed and left somewhere and no one will care just like that guy who just got murdered on the movie". That really bothers me, I mean its just a movie right? Latley he seems peaceful, calm and it sorta bothers me. I found alot of near death experience sites on bookmarks on his browser. Should I wory

I am considering taking Lexapro for anxiety, but I was wondering if anyone has had success using Xanax alone? I am just so nervous about the possible side effects of taking an SSRI.... I was wondering if it might be equally effective to take a low-dose of Xanax daily instead of an SSRI?

I know you guys are not doctors, but I am just looking for other people's personal experiences... Thanks!

what is the best cure for Depression? Besides taking medication, what can one do to overcome it?

I feel completely lost right now, I'm so confused and I don't know what I really want. I'm not happy in my job (I'm a junior doctor), but I only started a few months ago and I've studied at university for 6 years to get to where I am right now. I find it really stressful and overwhelming, I feel out of my depth and I'm plagued with doubts about my ability to do the job well. I feel very isolated, I suffer from social anxiety and find it difficult to make friends, and none of my old "friends" seem too bothered about keeping in touch with me. I just feel very lonely and scared all the time, and I don't know what to do to improve the situation.

Any advice would be appreciated. And please don't tell me to quit my job, that's not an option.

I've been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, clinical depression, and anxiety. I'm functional in the sense that I pay my bills on time, have a Master's degree, am in a relationship, and have a career. However, my moods are erratic, I'm often depressed, and procrastination has ruined aspects of my life. I've been to three different types of therapists in the past 12 years for different lenths of time... and I have been medicated with prozac, lexapro, xanax, buspar, wellbutrin, and currently, effexor. Low and high doses have been administered, but I continue to be depressed and very moody. I've also taken St.Johns Wort for a few months, but that didn't work either. I continue to lay in bed for hours after work, or overeat (constantly gaining and losing the same 50 pounds). These are just a couple of ways my depression shows itself. I've been on numerous web sites about different psychological disorders, and read my share of self help books. Don't know what to do.

I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I lost the ability and feeling in my right side for about a week. I still can't write very well but it's a little better every day. They treated the flare up with steriods for five days through an IV. The day after I was done with the treatment I got so sick I ended up back in the hospital. My skin got red and inflammed and started peeling, my blood pressure and temperature dropped, and my neck and back were so stiff I could barely move. Has anybody else had a negative reaction to the steriod Solumedrol? What should I expect next time?

I am considering Jeff Anderson's weight training program, which he claims increases your testosterone by more than 300% to help gain mass. It is all natural and involves no steroids or drugs. Is this safe? I don't know if this will increase chances of prostrate cancer, or mess with one's personality when testosterone is this much higher in a body. The program is at www.optimum-anabolics.com
