I got very depressed when I went through a divorce. But I would take a walk to a nearby school a get on the swing set and just swing away. It was great therapy. I think we get depressed whenever we try to deal with more than one day's problems at a time. The Bible says let tomorrow take care of itself. Our minds can't take on but so much. So, just enjoy today. I also put on music that I played during happy times in my life. That always lifts my spirits. Another thing that might help is to write a letter to yourself explaining all the reasons you feel depressed. Do this on a regular basis and you will feel relieved having gotten those things out of your system. My best recommendation though, is for you to pray to God and understand that He sees all you are going through. He loves you. And He will be with you through everything if you just tell Him about it. Good luck.

That's a very vague and general question. There are many anti-depressants that a psychiatrist can prescribe, but it may take time to find out which one works best for you. Other than medication (which you may not need), there are other ways of dealing with it. Having an active social life helps, finding a support group where others can offer suggestions and advice is also a good idea.
What you should NOT do is isolate yourself. Tell somebody close to you how you are feeling - DO NOT KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!
I'm sure you'll get other answers here. I've just put my own couple of cents in.

Depends on if it's just depression or manic depression. For regular depression, try doing things you enjoy even when your feeling down or talking to someone. IF that doesn't work meds might be the only way to go, but don't dismiss the meds just cause you think your depressions not that bad. It could be worse then you know. If it's manic depression , then honestly i would take the meds. I have had depression ever since i was a little kid, i have been on all kinds of different meds until i was 17. They didn't help me but they could help you. Don't give up ok.

Real depression will not be cured by taking up a hobby or exercising.
Depression is a serious chronic illness and you need to get serious help.
Sometimes the hardest part is just starting.
Good luck to you.

The best cure is exercise (if you physically can) and artwork/writing even though both may accelerate depression ther is a higher chance that these help your mind heal from the trauma it has to go through.
