Veganism, as I've been taught here in this forum, is not about being perfect in regards to a vegan lifestyle, but about doing the best you can.

In today's world, vegans are forced to do non-vegan things to survive in daily life. They are "unavoidable", as I've been told.

What are some non-vegan scenarios that are acceptable to vegans and who decides if your efforts are worthy of vegan status?

Do you think it is immoral for vegans to carve jack o lanterns? Since we all know that halloween is the work of the devil anyways, should halloween be banned because of the abuse to pumpkins? Pumpkins are raised and harvested just for this reason. It seems very inhumane!

How come, cats can't be vegetarians because they need the nutrients?

Can't they get the same nutrients from soy, and other things like we do?

(I know dogs can be vegetarians)

I guess there really is no real vegan lifestyle. We all use organisms. Does an ameba suffer when we eat it with a bite of seaweed ect? Does the seaweeed suffer? Was a worm 'used' by eatting a carrot that was fed by a nutrient that was the waste product of a worm? When you walk on a sidewalk, was a construction worker 'used' in the making of this sidewalk?

These are not silly questions I'm asking. Just what are the ethics of it all? I'm vegan and I havn't thought of these things before.

Is it a question of evolutionary status? As in, it's ok to eat a carrot but not a dog because dogs are higher on the Darwinian scale.

Is it a question of pain sensation? As in, if the organism can feel pain, it's wrong to make it suffer?

Is it a question of degree of "use"? As in, is it worse to farm an animal than to hunt one because the wild animal at least had it's personal sovergnty for part of it's life?

Is 'being used' a frame of mind and has nothing to do with the 'user'?

Hi..my brother and me and his wife are all mostly vegan and stay FAR away from gelatin.

My sis-in law really wants to do some camping and/or have a bonfire where we can all roast marshmallows, veggie hot dogs, etc etc..

She has an EXCELLENT homemade marshmallow recipie. Tastes wonderful, but she says they don't roast well..she asked if I could find something online for roasting...

Is there a brand of vegan marshmallows I could order online? I found this one, which looks like it might be fine, but I can't tell how big the marshmallows are. We dont want minis, we want nice sized roasters..

here's the ones I found.. anyone tried them? How big are they? http://www.veganstore.com/850.html?gclid=CNGhr7SHkY8CFRcbWAodWE2BeQ

I'd appreciate any help.. thanks..

BTW.. we're not super picky vegans.. We eat honey and occasionally products with a slight milk ingredient, although she prefers no milk products..

All food has some bacteria in it and bacteria are organisms, just as a dog or a cow or a grasshopper are.

So this makes me ponder; what are the lines between vegan and not vegan?

Could it be said that eatting an unfertilized egg from a free range bird is more vegan than eatting fermented beans since fewer organisms (bacteria) die from eatting the egg?

I'm vegan and this question just happened to occur to me and I'm wondering what other people think. I hope I get some serious replies.

I've finally found soy yogurt after much looking in Trader Joe's, but the soy milk is pasturised. Does soy yogurt with active cultures exist?

There is no whole foods in my area.

I wanted to buy some vegan Halloween candy for the trick or treaters this year, but none of the bags in my Meijer (grocery store) contain any of the vegan brands. Any ideas as to where else I might be able to find individual wrapped vegan candy? I was hoping to find Sour Patch Kids or Airheads in particular.

I'm a vegan, and I don't know why I still feel so tired all of the time. I get enough sleep, and I take daily vitamins with iron and eat enough protein.

i want to give up meat and animal products... I'm planning on just giving up meat, chicken and fish and becoming a vegetarian and then easing my way into veganism. I've tried this before and my mom gets really angry with me. How can I convince her to let me continue my eating habits because I really feel strongly about giving up animal products.

Or pesco-vegetarians... or whatever you want to call them. Essentially, one who follows mainly a vegetarian diet but occasionally will eat seafood.

Do you think they're horrible people because they're not willing to go full veg? Do you badger them on a fairly regular basis, asking them why they must think fish aren't living creatures? Meat eaters especially ask the latter question... which I personally consider funny. Why would they even be concerned with how a veg, or a mostly-veg, conducts their life when they're not ashamed at all of their own diet? (And I'm not saying they have reason to be ashamed- people choose their own lifestyles and I do not fault them for that.)

Does it seem strange to you that some people are willing to go mostly veg but not all the way?

I've been between pesco and full veg for years, and I have settled at pesco for the time being... I suppose mainly for family gatherings, where there are family members who are very critical of what I eat.

i'm a vegan in college and my cafeteria doesn't provide well for my diet - i am working with them to resolve that, but meanwhile does anybody know any cheap and easy vegan meals that can be cooked in the microwave? i don't have a full kitchen here, only a microwave - i know you can get ready made meals, but i'd rather make my own from scratch.
Thanks!
