Just curious.

On this site we regularly get fish eaters claiming to be vegetarians.

And yet all the recognised world authorities on vegetarian issues, and dictionaries, say this

A Vegetarian os a person who does not eat meat, fish, poultry or any slaughter by-products

What is the point in lying to yourselves and others ?

Please don't point to any unmoderated website that says veggies eat fish, they are just made up definitions, not real ones.

I don't think i would ever lie just to say i was connected to a group of people, no matter how great they were

fish-eaters cause so much confusion to the vegetarian movement. Even in the face of being told what the official definition is, they still claim to be veggies.

whats the point ?

My question is not about whats right, or wrong about being veggie, so we don't need to discuss the merits of vegetarianism vs fishy diets. My question is about why do so many fisheaters pretend to be veggies.

I ask because breast feeding is just giving the child the milk from an animal. Sentient or not.

would meat eating be acceptable (hypothetically) if factory farming was banned and hunting was the only means of obtaining meat? and only those species with abundant populations were being hunted?

just a hypothetical question.

ok, it's well known (i hope!) that protein is not absorbed 'as is' it is digested to amino acids and secondly the amino acids we need are found in plant products too.

so why do i still get that "meat protein is necessary" BS? meat-eaters, please answer? are you just ignorant or are you trying to be mean?

im a lacto-vegetarian, meaning i dont eat meat, chicken, fish or eggs but i do eat dairy... i have been for 5 weeks so far and i cant imagine eating meat again. i really suggest you think about being a vegetarian because it would help everythinggg meat eaters will become fat! obesity in vegetarians is only .000012 percent.

I was just curious...given that I've been vegetarian all my life, and have become vegan recently...I was wondering what other people's reasons were as to what they do

Why do they care that some people don't eat meat? Besides if the vegetarians aren't eating any meat then there will be more for them.

Have combined many various cupboard ingredients with varying success e.g. either too tomatoey;salty etc. Occasionally very good - but looking for e.g. nice gravy with lentil and veg loaf.

I want to do this basically for health and moral reasons, but every time I go a few days without eating meat (or greatly reducing the meat intake), I feel a terrible compulsion to binge on the meat. Maybe it sounds silly but it is a physical compulsion, its not really mental. I'm actually quite a decent cook, and I can make more than a few vegan or veggie meals that I like that I think should be giving me everything I need, but it really seems like something is missing from that diet that is only satisfied by the meat products. Has anyone had this experience (maybe when first starting out?); I appreciate any advice.

While the analogues are not meat, they appear to be and taste like animals. A question for vegetarians (and other friendly omnivores): What's your opinion of eating fake flesh?
