I'm not going to be a vegetarian and here's some reasons why:

1. I like meat
2. I don't think I'd like getting all my protein from legumes and nuts.
3. I've seen skinny meat-eaters and fat vegetarians.
4. The deranged ramblings of a "5-week lacto-vegetarian" just aren't that convincing.

I don't eat meet, but I do eat meat. I can stand to eat meat because I love it. The majority of my diet is meat, and I am not fat. It's not meat that makes a person fat, it's all of the junk that people eat that makes them fat. You can suggest people become vegetarians all you want, but it's not gonna work. People eat meat because they like it. If you travel around the country, steak houses out number vegetarian restaurants, so if you are campaigning to get everyone to become a vegetarian, you have a long road ahead of you. I know a couple vegetarians, and they aren't near as healthy looking as the people I know who eat meat. They are all a little pale from lack of protein.

I think you need to calm down -- quite a bit -- and perhaps read a bit on the history of vegetarianism, not that PETA garbage, before sharing your new-found vegetarianism with everybody.

You'll be _much_ less embarrassed later on, when you're older.

Actually. Don't 'share' your vegetarianism like that at all. Vegetarians and vegans who preach to others and try to paint themselves as morally superior because they make different dietary choices are some of the most loathed people around -- quadruple that loathing if the person listening is a vegetarian themselves.

Re. "obesity in vegetarians is only .000012 percent" -- thank you for the laugh, though.

I know exactly how you feel I'm a vegan myself (since I was 14 years old and now I am almost 17). Eating meat is like committing a murder and for those who said that god mad the animals to be eaten that is one of the most ignorant comment ever. If that is true then we should be eating each because humans are animals as well. Besides non human animals are here for the same reason we are and that is to live. Oh yeah also for those who answered ur question saying that meat is healthy then they are 1000% because not only they have a higher risk of being obese but also they have a higher risk of having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, strokes, heart diseases, kidney stones, some type of cancers and more.
Now if you really are worrying about the weight then you should go vegan because dairy makes you fat besides it is stilling a baby's milk.

Thats what makes the world go round my dear. What works for you may not work for everyone else. Why do you try to make other people do what you do and believe, its not normal. Good for you found happiness in not eating meat, but to suggest to someone to do as you do is a little rude and insane. IF everyone ate the same, talked the same and looked the same then there would be no reason for even this yahoo Q&A because everyone would have the same answers and questions. You should try to stop preaching and except people ARE DIFFERENT and love that about living!

I know many eat meaters that are still skinny. It's the same if someone asked a vegetarian "How can you NOT eat meat?" wouldn't it annoy you after awhile hearing the same question? I know it annoys me. Some people like to eat meat and some don't.

Just like when you touch the door knob in a public restroom, you try not to think about what is really there. Honestly! Thats how it is when you eat proccessed meat.

However, there are great alternatives like hormone-free farm-raised meat. Or even just meat properly cooked, at home, in a familiar environment. Meat itself doesn't make anyone fat. In fact, a healthy diet like yours combined with healthy meat-eating choices will probably be better. It could make you more beautiful too with healthier skin and a bit of plump in the face which is much more beautiful than a gaunt face. Not that being a vegetarian would make you too skinny either, though... just don't become obssessed with the weight aspect of the diet.

I am an animist. I believe all living beings have souls, not just animals. Therefore to me it's no different eating a cow or a carrot--both had to die for me to live. Unless you live entirely on fruit and nuts and other plant-based foods that won't kill the plant during harvesting, as well as milk, something is dying for you to live.

Additionally, unless you're eating 100% organic, you're still contributing to the ill treatment of animals through the perpetuation of pesticides and other poisons. And unless you know where your food came from you might be supporting farmers in South America who slash and burn rain forests for farmland. And unless your dairy came from free-range cattle you're still supporting ill treatment of dairy cows that are fed antibiotics and, quite possibly, meat products, as well as living in stockyards instead of pastures.

Finally, if you're going to throw out statistics, at least do a little research and show where you got your information from. That stat looks rather suspect.

Before you go all high and mighty on everyone else about how perfect you are for being vegetarian, why don't you think about what I've pointed out above? There's nothing wrong with choosing to be vegetarian, or vegan, or raw-food-ist, or whatever dieatary restrictions you want to put on yourself. But trying to guilt other people into making the same choices is actually counter-productive because you sound preachy instead of convincing. Additionally, you come off as incredibly condescending, which is going to turn even more people off to wqhat it is you're trying to say. It's not just what you say, but HOW you say it, that matters.

First of all, I have seen PLENTY of vegetarians who are overweight.

I tried being a vegetarian for a couple of months, thinking I would feel better. After all, that's what everyone told me...stop eating meat and you'll have so much more energy. I felt like crap. I was always tired, I had no energy to work out, I had constant headaches, etc.

I don't knock people who are vegetarians, it takes a lot of self control. I just think it's meant for our bodies to eat meat, you can agree to disagree...

Now, I'm just guessing, but you made that decimal up on the spot didn't you?

I like meat, meat tastes good, and 96% of the population agree with me. I don't hold anything against normal veggies but I have to say you're a moron, get off your high horse and stop trying to preach to people, it doesn't make you look good.
