According to Heinz consumer FAQ; Because it is a very acidic product, ketchup does not spoil easily. Once opened, in order to maintain the product's quality more effectively, we do suggest that ketchup (and any other processed food) be refrigerated after opening because refrigeration retards spoilage.

Ketchup in the plastic pouches is more or less non-perishable. I'm sure it goes bad eventually (like in several years), and probably faster if exposed to extreme temperatures (same applies to canned goods). Bottled ketchup however typically has an expiration date. I've noticed that at least most of it also says "refrigerate after opening" on the bottle, so I would assume it goes bad eventually. Since the packets aren't intended for resale, the expiration date is probably on the original box/case they came in.

Its tomato based so its acid. It will probably rot because everything does but it will take a long time. Little Ketchup bags I'd say stay good for 2 to 3 years

Eventuallly, it does in some ways. Old ketchup packet wills slowly degrade in flavor. Consider when you don't see an expiration date that that information, just like the nutritional information, is on the boxes that the packets arrive in to the restaurant.

As long as it has never been opened, it should be fine. If it has been opened, ketchup can begin to ferment. Open the little packet and smell the ketchup. If it smells ok, it is fine.

it doesn't exactly rot , but I'm sure it becomes less edible as time goes on , it gets all weird n all darker...
so dont keep the packets for too long, not advisable....
but there is nothing to worry abt the expiry, these ketchup packets are packed very often as they get used up alot , so they r probably new

Because of the vinegar in the bottle, it neither rots nor needs to be refrigerated, but you can refrigerate it if you would like. However, it does last for long periods of time since vinegar doesn't spoil and acts as a preservative
