I received a shipment of Mangos (mangoes) from Ecuador. They are unripe. I can make Thai green mango salad or ripen them. How is the best way to ripen them?

I saw it at the supermarket once... the name started with "Smart" and it had other vegetarian products as well. But I was interested in the meatless hot dog. What's it called? And has anyone tried it? Did you like it?

I've been vegetarian for half a year now. I eat a LOT of tofu, a lot of tofurky, ficken, you know the whole pseudo-meat vegetarian diet. I occasionally eat eggs and fish as well (family fears, not personal choice). This week, my hair started to fall out. I heard a lot of urban legends about 12-year vegetarians that started losing their hair. Do you think my lack of protein contributed to this?

I'm just shedding, you know? I'll run my fingers through my hair .. and I'll lose two or three strands? It's so scary, and I don't know what to do?

I am 13 years old and I want to start a vegan life style. But it's like every where I go people think vegans aren't normal or that we are stupid. I hate to deal with this, like when I am in restaruants and waiters have a huge problem with me being vegan and not wanting meat or dairy on something I order ! Are there some websites or books with recipes so that I can make home-food?
( And really I don't need any meateaters saying " HMMMM Meat, "

Do you think people have been socially conditioned to think meat is the only source of protein and that milk is necessary for strong bones?

Are there different degrees ?

When I cooked (once) for my sister-in-law, I couldn't use milk in my mashed potatoes. But butter was ok. Good gawd !! help me understand why butter is different from milk when it comes from the animal?

Also if I make gravy or a vegetable soup using chicken or beef boullion, isn't that still considered meaty since the boullion came from some part of the animal through processing but is not actually a chunk of it?

We have had numerous vegetarian exchange students as well and they seem to eat what ever I put in front of them as long as they don't see a chunk of meat. Are they less of a vegetarian than those who don't do milk? What about eggs... it is a protein that comes from an animal... how can any vegetarians eat breads and cakes and such with eggs in them?

I am just confused with all the different ways I see vegetarians. Seems to be double standards and I want YOU to give it to me straight!!!

Thanks : )

I was at a restaurant and the waitress told me the gravy was vegetarian. How is this possible? I thought they used meat drippings for the gravy. I was suspicious so I declined. She seemed kinda miffed about it though.

Okay... so I come on here this morning and see ALL these lovely posts like "meat is tasty murder" and "what's the best way to kill an animal slowly", etc. I'm getting really sick of it.

SOOOO.... I was thinking. How 'bout if all of us actual vegetarians and vegans just STOP RESPONDING to these morons? Half the time these harrassing, obnoxious and downright sickening posts get more responses than the serious "veggie to veggie" questions do! Clearly it just gets these morons off, getting all us veggies riled up.

So flag 'em if you want to... but DONT respond to 'em. Once they get a few violation notices from yahoo AND don't get the pleasure of pissing us all off... maybe they'll go find something better to do with themselves.

Oh... and just so my question is a question... how 'bout this: WHAT is the best way to get the morons off our board? Anybody have any other ideas???

...by about 10 years, would you still be a Vegan?

Understand that the research on this topic shows the opposite effect. This question is just a hypothetical.
Also this question is anything but an attack, I'm a vegan too!

Take care,

About a week ago, I became a vegan. The second day, I had bad diarrhea. For about a week, my head has been hurting.

I do eat eggs, fruit, milk, nuts and more for proper nutrition.
Is it because my body is adjusting?

I am currently in Chicago. I feel that I have been here too long to get the results and motivation I need to open my completely *vegan* bakery, Sweet Cakes Bakery. I have a comfortable job and living situation, so I find myself not being as active as I believe I would be if I were to start it somewhere else. I have been thinking about heading west. Specifically Portland, San Francisco or Seattle. Any suggestions on where to go? I am also looking for a job and a place for myself and my dog to call home. I don't know much about the sketchy neighborhoods to stay away from. I am vegan, and would prefer to work in at least a vegetarian friendly space before I open my own.

People always seem to make some sort of connection between anemia and veganism. Someone here had posted a question about being dizzy frequently, and somebody suggested that she might be anemic. I do have frequent dizzy spells that last a minute or so. Plus, I've been really cold lately, and I've been somewhat depressed.

Would this be anemia?

If so, what can I do to prevent it or treat it?

--Also, I've been a vegetarian for a year, and I'm in the process of going vegan.
