I am 13 years old and I want to start a vegan life style. But it's like every where I go people think vegans aren't normal or that we are stupid. I hate to deal with this, like when I am in restaruants and waiters have a huge problem with me being vegan and not wanting meat or dairy on something I order ! Are there some websites or books with recipes so that I can make home-food?
( And really I don't need any meateaters saying " HMMMM Meat, "

Haha, just search VEGAN tips on the internet. Mmhm, and there's a packet you can get from WHY VEGAN? to help you with your daily lifestyle.

And for the ignorant jerks out there who think that vegan isn't a life style, IGNORE them. There's bound to be people who don't agree with your lifestyle -- whether you eat meat, you don't eat meat, or you don't sleep. Do what makes you feel good, and if vegan is the way to go, then do it.

And if you get a rude waiter that questions your lifestyle, you better complain with the manager. It's your choice, and their job is to ask you want you want, and then give it to you. It's in the job description.

Find vegan restaurants online -- http://yelp.com
If you live near the Bay Area, downtown San Jose has a great selection of vegan restaurants. There is Good Karma, Toofoo Com Chay, Vegetarian House, and White Lotus. Search all of them on Yelp, and Yelp should help you find a good restaurant. If you live somewhere else, just search for VEGETARIAN and insert your area. Yelp does wonders.

Also -- I don't know if this helps. But for me, I slowly morphed in vegetarian mode. I know that at a young age if you completely go into vegan mode, and you had a diet where you used to eat a lot of meat, you'll go into shock. So slowly take away the meat, and then take away everything else. (ex. you eat meat 3 days a week, then 1 day a week, and then 0 days a week?)

People are idiots. They'll find something to judge you on no matter what. I've been vegan since I was 12, I'll be 24 this September. My own mom & step dad made things hard for me but I'm still here & I kept my mind on the why's & how's of veganism. It's worth it. Trust me. Ignore people. A lot of them are just insecure about their eating habits & get offended easily. It's their guilty conscience, nothing personal.

Hey, I'm a 13 year old vegan too! People can be cruel sometimes, because you don't consume meat or dairy, but whatever, who cares what some waitress says! People who think it's weird or stupid to be vegan are just ignorant. Being vegan's great, and the number of young vegans is on the rise.

As websites go here are a couple:

http://www.vegetarianteen.com/

http://www.peta2.com

Some good vegan cookbooks:

Vegan Planet by Robin Robertson

Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero (mmm, cupcakes :-))

Good luck!

If you want to make the switch, dealing with the rest of society is all a part of it. Just focus on your reasoning for going with a vegan lifestyle, often others won't understand, or want to understand, but reminding yourself of why you're doing it will keep you going.
Making you own food is the easiest way for assuring your food is vegan friendly, and it saves dealing with others. www.vegweb.com , peta.com , vegfamily.com , veganchef.com , and www.vegan-food.net all will have plenty of recipes, and peta offers a free vegetarian starter kit, which really focuses on veganism, and it may help you out quite a bit.
As far as eating out goes, let the waiters and waitresses be frustrated--the more you nag, the more restaurants will start coming out with strictly vegan options. It'll take a while, but everything works in a supply and demand sort of fashion. 10 years ago, not many vegetarian options existed, but nagging vegetarians made it happen!
Good luck!

And continuously Google something you're uncertain approximately... extremely organic flavors! i became ingesting Chex mixture for the longest time in the previous i found out it can not be vegan :-( i'm hoping a number of this permits.

It is hard to do the vegan lifestyle but it can be done. Stick to your guns.

I have a child who is on the crazy wheat free/gluten free/dairy free diet. I'm telling you this because I have to watch every single thing that this child orders. So for you, it's going to be a little rough but it can be done.

BTW, good question and I loved seeing all the different websites.

Best of luck-

I know, it's freakin ridiculous, I mean, do they act like that when people have food allergies? Barnes and noble have some really good books on vegan cooking, and I bet there are listings online of some vegan friendly resteraunts. A lot of places now offer black bean burgers and stuff like that. Good luck, and don't let it frustrate you away from being a vegan!

You can do several things to address your issues:

♥ Make your own recipes!
Lots of veggies say that their veganism makes them better cooks!
-Google "vegan recipes"
-Go to http://www.vegcooking.com/
-Go to your library and get a vegan cookbook (they're abundant)
♥ Advice for restaurants
Do these things:
-Call the restaurant beforehand & ask what's vegan
