There is abundant literature out there about the health benefits of vegetarianism, aside from the moral and ethical reasons. Since you are all young and healthy they have not yet seen what a lifetime of meat eating can do to a person! To answer your question, after all, I do not want to be judgmental on the other side, I would not try to impose my views on eating to other people nor would I criticize their eating habits, BUT if people persist in being judgmental I would give them a piece of my mind concerning why I personally made the choice, remembering to keep it simple and straightforward.

Well seeing as I myself am a vegetarian I wouldn't judge another vegetarian. I get **** all the time though! For example I went on a school field trip to Washington D.C. We stopped at this little deli place (that totally over priced my food!). I got a veggie wrap because it was the only vegetarian choice they had. So I'm sitting outside with my friends (that I only met this year) and one goes "What are you eating grass?" I said "No it's sprouts" and she gave me a disgusted look and went "How can you not enjoy a nice juicy steak" that kind of **** pisses me off. I'm not juding YOU when you're eating meat so don't judge me when I'm eating my vegeterian meals. Someone on here said "Vegans are a different story" or something to that extent, why would you judge them? Pretty hyporcitical if you ask me. My advice to you hun is to really not try to bring up that you're a vegetarian unless someone asks. I know it's a free country but you see how they treated you when they found out that you're a vegetarian. I still support you though, so if you ever need to talk to someone feel free to e-mail. How long have you been a vegetarian for?

I don't judge people for what they eat, what they believe, what their orientation is, etc. I believe everyone should be who they want without other people judging them. Of course in certain cases, people more or less ask to be judged (ie. if a guy walks around in a shiny pink suit and feather boa or something)... but hey... to each his own.
However, it doesn't surprise me that kids in school would be mean. They pick on people for anything that makes them different. I would say that once you reach a certain age, "being unique" becomes more of a positive thing. During the early teen years, people seem to want to blend in and be "normal" rather than standing out and being yourself. It will get better... but it's probably something you'll have to learn to deal with until you're out of school. And even as an adult... there's still some people who will make comments, etc. Some people just aren't comfortable with people who are different from themselves.

Kids can be mean. It's not that much better when you grow up though. People either fear or make fun of things they don't understand. You made your chose, good for you, now stick by them.
I have kidded some of my vegetarian friends, things like "If your mean to me, I'll hold you down and make you eat a rare steak", but we both know I'd never do that because I respect them and their decision. Only time a vegetarian bothers me is with the oh yuk, how can you eat that, don't you know that was a living animal or getting in my face about it in some way.
I even make sure if a person doesn't eat meat and comes over my place to eat, that they have plenty to eat and I either don't cook anything too gross for myself or eat what they're having.

never. i am a vegetarian and i have be teased, put down, etc many times. some of my FRIENDS have even joked that they would put meat in my food when im not looking. it sucks, and i can't stand it. if people are sincerely curious about my diet and ask about it in a polite way then i have no problem explaining it to them. if someone doesn't want to be a vegetarian then fine, but it's unacceptable to make fun of them and it feels really horrible. i'm sorry so many people judge you but don't let them change your mind! try and find some other vegetarians to talk to or hang out with =)

As long as you're not being rude about what other ppl eat, there should be no reason for anyone to criticise what you eat. Don't insult ppl eating meat or try to convert them to vegetarian ways. If you don't do that, then the kids in your school are just idiots and should stop picking on you for pathetic reasons.

People judge what they don't understand. They're likely judging you out of ignorance. I would try hard not to take it personally.
As long as you're respectful of their right to eat what they want, you'll do fine. Don't judge THEM for what they DO eat :) and then you can always say "I respect your right to your opinion and your right to eat what you want. I've never intentionally been rude to you because we have different views. Can you respect my right to eat what I want and think what I want? I'm not hurting you or anyone else by not eating meat.... is there a reason it offends you so much?"
:) Just be proactive and make sure you never give them a reason to pick on you. (Not that school-age people NEED a reason...)

When I see this It just reminds me that people(humans) are pack animals. They are afraid to be seen as different. WHY? In security I guess. Why should it matter to them if you don't eat meat?
This is where the true nature of a person shows.. remember them when you & they grow up. You'll find even some "adults" this small minded.

i have never judged some one that is a vegetarian, and would never do it because i respect the decision. as long as you respect i'm a carnivore and do not bug me about why i shouldn't be every time i eat i dont really care. now if you always talk about how the animals are being tortured, then i'll judge you and bully u. but not until then, not until u won't stop fussing about why people should be vegetarian.

I'm a vegetarian and people (including family members) give me a hard time...all the time! I just smile and say nothing, because I know I'm healthier for being a vegetarian and I'm doing what I believe in - not eating animals.
