I make mine sweet & spicy & put American cheese in it. It may sound gross, but if you eat it, you'll go nuts. I also put sugar & BBQ sauce in my pork & beans & rice with weiner slices, too.

I need a good idea for Christmas dessert. The meal is going to be pigs in a blanket and veggie platter as appetizers, soup or salad (not sure which on yet, see my other question), and then a main course of ham, roasted red potatoes and asparagus.

I'd like something sweet, but not intensely sweet. I do have a Kitchenaide mixer, if that helps and a lot of other kitchen tools to use, including a spring form pan, if any ideas have a use for those. I just can't think of what to make. I want to do the dinner all on my own since it's the first time I'm hostessing Christmas dinner for our families.

Thanks in advance!

I have made my Christmas cake same recipe I use at work all year round....Same method as I use all year round maybe once or twice a week. Only difference is I used Asda greaseproof. Lined tin. Cake looks fab tried to take peel paper off and the paper has literally burnt into the cake. How the heck do I get it off it won't peel etc.
I have no time to make another one as my last day off.

Recipes call for oil or broth being "divided". What does that mean?

Thanks!

I am cooking Christmas dinner for myself, my husband, my parents and my in-laws. I want to make it a few courses so was thinking of making either a soup or salad as the second course (after some appetizers). One thought was a cream of onion soup or a baked potato soup. Or, do I make a simple garden salad for each person?
In everyone's opinion what is best. Or, can anyone give me any other ideas? I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,

We have a bread maker in our house that I would like to have see some action again. The recipes that I have for the bread maker call for shortening, and I am wondering, is it possible to substitute a canola oil or something similar for the shortening? We are trying to live our lives as trans-fat free as possible at our house, and I don't want to be stuck with a container of disgusting Crisco on our hands. What are the properties of shortening in baking as well, so I can know what they do? Thanks!

I'm making red velvet cookies for Christmas this year, and I'm an amateur baker. Can I replace the vegetable oil with canola oil, since it's a little healthier? Will the texture change at all if I do? Thanks in advance!

I have a great simple recipe for fresh salsa that everybody at work and home loves. Since it's the Christmas season, and everybody at work is giving small little gifts I thought I'd give out some cans of my fresh home-made salsa. For the fresh version, I don't peel the tomatoes. For the canning process, do the tomatoes have to be peeled? I don't want to go through the extra work of peeling them if I don't have to. Canning the salsa will be enough work in itself.

My concern is that I just don't want the cans of salsa to go bad because I left the skins on. I don't think they should go bad because the skins would go through the boiling process just like the rest of the tomato would, but this is my first time canning so I wanted to be sure.

Anybody canned tomatoes with the skins still on and it worked?

Thanks!!!

I have a recipe for caramel sauce, but it is not working.
5 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 cup cream

Heat sugar and water, boil until amber coloured/hard ball stage
Add cream and stir until combined.

*The recipe worked once with smaller proportions, but I can't get it to work again ... either the syrup crystalizes or when I add the cream I get a lumpy/separated mess that is too light and doesn't taste like caramel.

I'd love an answer from someone who has actually made caramel sauce with any tricks that work (so I can stop wasting time and cream!)

Thanks.

When I bake cookies they always come out of the oven tasting more like cakes and being really huge
Like example 1
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g270/evilaphrodite/DSC00214.jpg
which have since been murdered and thrown in the bin

I adjusted the size a little (well a lot) and the next batch came out kind of better but still looked like cake but were harder on top hard enough at the bottom
example 2
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g270/evilaphrodite/DSC00215.jpg
(they're upside down btw)

so do I just need to make them smaller and they'll stop turning out like cake? and more like cookies!

Is that a good breakfast? Is it healthy or does it defeat the purpose of trying to stay healthy? If it's bad why and what should I change about it. Thanks

I'm counting on Mom's to help me here!

I'm newly married and this is my first time to cook a turkey, and I'm not sure about the pre-process.

We have a small turkey breast (serves 2-3) that weighs about 530g(e)
If I freeze it, how long will it take to defrost (a) in the fridge, or (b) room temp?

thanks alot, merry Christmas :-)

My beleaf is that the broiler element only works when broiling and not when roasting. Our muffins burn at 350 degrees and if the rack was lifted another one or two notches that problem may be curtailed. And we should stop blaming the top element especially when the muffins only burn on the bottom.

I know it's the most basic thing ever and i normally make much more complicated food, but one basic dish evades me, and it's scrambled egg.

So can you also provide the ingredients as well for the perfect scrambled egg made in a microwave please?

Thanks
