Basting implies coating the outside of the skin.

Injecting is actually taking a needle and injecting a marinading solution into the meat of the turkey.

For injecting, I like Cajun Injector's Creole Butter.

Basting is quite different than injecting. Basting refers to the process of recovering the juices produced through the cooking process and pouring it over the bird. It supports a juicer meat and a browner skin. Injecting is introducing a liquid marinade into the flesh of the bird prior to cooking. There are some good commercial marinades out there like Louisiana Cajun Butter, but ol' No. 7 (bourbon for those that don't know), liquid smoke (just a drop or 2), salt, garam masala or ras el hanout, hot sauce, brown sugar, tomato paste, and water works good.
