Is that a good breakfast? Is it healthy or does it defeat the purpose of trying to stay healthy? If it's bad why and what should I change about it. Thanks

2 tsp of brown sugar are not going to kill you, you need a certain amount of fat in your diet. Oatmeal is about as healthy as you can get and I'm quite glad there is the brown sugar b/c otherwise -bleah!

Instant oatmeal is probably better than some of the overly processed and sweetened cereals. However, it lacks a lot of the fiber that you would get by making your own. You can fix regular oatmeal really quick in the microwave and get the benefit of the fiber.
Brown sugar is just white sugar with molasses blended in. You may want to consider cutting back on the sugar and adding a few chopped dried fruits to get a bit of sweetness and more fiber.
With dried fruits, however, many are loaded with sugar in the drying process. Try to find natural dried fruits without the sugar. They are not as 'pretty' since the sugar helps to keep the bright colors but they taste just as good!

It's probably not as bad as bacon and gravy, but instant oatmeal is very high in sugar and sodium.

Buy a round box of Quick Oatmeal. You can make it in the microwave oven in about as much time as the instant, and it's better for you w/ less sugar, less sodium, and more fiber.

This shows you the right oats to eat and how to make them. It's just 10 minutes. Alton Brown's "Good Eats" (skip the haggis part!):

Oatmeal is a healthy part of a nutritionally balanced diet. Try to cut back the sugar and throw in some dried fruit for sweetness...maybe some cinnamon too, to create more flavor.

EDIT: Carolina above me is correct.

You'd be better off making your own oatmeal with brown sugar than the instant stuff. Instant oatmeal, however, is not the worst thing on this planet...

All prepackaged instant oatmeals are chocked full of additives and sodium. Your girlfriend is right, using whole oats and adding your own sweetner is alot better for your two year old.

thats a good breakfast.

nothing is 'healthy' on its own

corn isn't healthy
cabbage isn't healthy
meat isn't healthy
fat isn't healthy
sugar isn't healthy
cauliflower isn't healthy

a balanced diet is healthy.
