everytime i drink milk or eat ice cream, it feels like my throat swells up, and its harder to breathe and swallow for about 15-30 minutes, depending on how much i eat. i don't have problems with cheese or anything like that. i'm allergic to fruits and veggies and whenever i eat those, my throat closes/swells and its harder for me to swallow and breathe. it feels the same as when i drink milk and ice cream, and i'm just realizing it now. it doesn't happen everytime i eat ice cream or drink milk, but like 1 out of every 3 times, and makes it very uncomfortable for me. also, it hurts like i need to burp or something, but i can't. so am i lactose intolerent, or have a milk allergy or something? what's going on..
also, is there any relief for my throat, that feels swollen?

If chicken is so cheap and abundant, why is a chicken sandwich the most expensive thing on the fast food menu?

Ground beef at the store: $3/lb
Chicken at the store: $1/lb

Double cheeseburger at McDonald's: $1
Grilled chicken sandwich at McDonald's: $4

What gives?

I have a been a vegetarian for over a year now. Sometimes I do come across things that I thought were vegetarian (for instance gummy bears) but really weren't. I know I'm not REALLY vegetarian anymore, but thats not stopping me. If I find something then I simply cut that out of my diet. Can I still sort of call my self a vegetarian without ridicule? Thanks for answering, and please don't come on here and tell me to give up. Go somewhere else, because I'm not going to deal with your bashing.

I am cooking dinner tomorrow night for my fiance's parents, his brother, and his brothers girldfriend.

I am planning on making stuffed bell peppers. She is not fond of red meat, but not a vegeterian. But I thought I would make one meat free for her.

Inside the pepper is going to be:
ground beef
rice
tomato sauce
parmesean cheese
spices

What should I replace the ground beef with for the veggie one?

I was thinking some kind of bean?
I'm kind of leaning away from pinto or black just because they will be covered with more tomato sauce and cheese, and I think mexican food when I think of black or pinto beans.
So anyway, I am thinking kidney beans might be a good choice.

What do you all think? Do you have any good ideas?

Thanks!!

The recipe I am wanting to make for Thanksgiving (basically a homemade version of ToFurky) calls for red wine. Can I substitute red wine vinegar??

I have fresh Broccolie, mushrooms, cauliflower and carrots. Is it recommended to blanch the vegetables first or serve them with the fondue raw?

I tried to cook some the other day for the first time and I didn't know when to take it off the burner. Since it was my first time cooking it I didn't know how it was supposed to taste.

I used to work in a hospital kitchen and it drove me nuts when I had to carefully prepare a nutritious vegan meal for a patient, only to have them scream at me for not bringing them chicken/eggs/jello/fish/ham they assumed they would get. Seriously, why order a vegan meal then complain about a lack of animal products? Could someone explain the logic at work here please?

Example would be; there are green leafy, root, fleshy, etc. of these, which should we eat the most of? Is there anything "official" written about this?

I know people say "eat a varied diet", but this is just too overwhelming to me. I need more structure... more of a guideline.
