The recipe I am wanting to make for Thanksgiving (basically a homemade version of ToFurky) calls for red wine. Can I substitute red wine vinegar??

NO, earthling.

Wine = alcohol
Vinegar = acid

You cannot substitute one for the other.

May I suggest a shot of Andromedan brandy. I can give you some, but I will have to hypnotize you first.

I wouldn't suggest it. Vinegar is essentially sour wine (vin aigre means wine sour in French). It has a very different taste from drinking wine.

its quite a different taste. If you want to substitute the two only use a small amount of vinegar and make the rest of the quantity up with vegetable stock.
