I once got sick from going to a vegan restaurant and ordering a steamed artichoke with tofu aioli. I went home a was very nauseous and threw up. A friend says it is impossible to get sick from restaurants that do not serve meat or dairy. Is this true? It would seem logical to me that bacteria knows no bounds and can contaminate any type of food, no?

I'm a vegetarian, so I get used to people saying things to 'get at me' about meat and things, but whatever I don't mind if you eat meat, its your choice, so I'd like some serious answers about this...

The new Viva! campaign says that animals farmed for meat produce more CO2 than the entire worlds transport system, and someone I know denounced this as rubbish and that these kind of animals are 'good for the enviroment' but didn't say why. And that if we all went vegetarian and didn't eat meat that the enviroment would be in a worse state. But surely there'd be less animals because of less demand and therefore less CO2 emissions?

I'm just wondering, how do animals mass produced for meat 'help' the enviroment?

What do you use to steep a tea bag that doesn't have a string? Do you use one of those metal balls?

Can you recommend a good tea for helping you fall asleep at night? I'm extremely sensitive to caffeine so it has to be something caffeine free and preferable something that tastes good without adding any kind of sweetener.

If you are a vegetarian for reasons of ethics, are you also pro-life? If not why? Aren't you being hypocritical?

I can't imagine my life without stuff like cheese or eggs.... I think if I ever became a vegetarian, I would be lacto-ovo and cheat sometimes with seafood...(I already don't eat much red meat)

Being vegan is out of the question, cause I can't live without chocolate, nor do i want to...

What about you? If you weren't raised vegetarian, was it hard to transition? And did you do it for health or humanitarian reasons? I don't really have an objection to eating animals, but i know it's possible to live without. I've been thinking about transitioning for a while but I don't think I will ever actually do it, because I just don't see myself limiting my food choices, or having to tell someone "I can't eat that, I'm a vegetarian".

What about you?

so Im making the turkey for thanksgiving, i have the turkey in the fridge de-thawing, and i have my brine recipe all ready to go. but it calls for 1/2 ounce ground cloves and 1/2 ounce ground ginger - how do i measure that out? here is the brine recipe:

Wolfgang’s Brined Roast Turkey
Brine:
1 gallon water
1/2 ounce ground cloves
1/2 ounce ground ginger
4 ounces cracked black peppercorns
12 bay leaves
1 pound kosher salt
24 ounces honey
24 ounces maple syrup

1 (10-pound) whole fresh turkey

In a large stockpot, bring the water, cloves, ginger, black peppercorn, bay leaves and salt to a boil. Lower to a simmer and stir in the honey and maple syrup until well blended. Turn off heat and allow to cool to room temperature.

Let's say I made baked sea scallops, with garlic, butter, wine & lemon sauce, a mushroom risotto, and a colorful salad with a soy sauce/vinaigrette. Would you do the dishes?
And, if my b/f didn't, should I dump him? ;-)
