I am looking for foods I can prepare in advance and just heat up on the day of. I'd like to be able to mingle with my guests instead of spending the whole time dealing with food. I'm planning to set up a buffet table so guests can help themselves and eat casually as they mingle with one another. I'm not a very talented cook, so the simpler, the better!

I eat Indian food at least once a day. It is prepared traditionally (no cream or butter added) and is cooked with olive oil. The oil is also skimmed from the the surface after cooking. All natural, fresh vegetables are used along with powdered spices and tomato sauce/paste. I want an estimation of the calorie information in say, a bowl of Rajma but it is hard to find nutritional information for these ethnic dishes on the internet. Thank You.

..I'm sure it's a dumb question, but I really don't know! There is a difference, right? Which one should I buy, and why?

I can't say my gastronomic experience is that highly developed, but the best I've tasted is cod. It's *pure heaven*, even when simply fried! XD I know cod is too general, but I don't know which species the one I've tasted belongs to. It has a black and white body, the meat is white, and the bone is delicious to suck on no matter how you cook it ^_^

Next would be eel (or catfish, I don't know, LOL). I know this is another generalisation, but I don't know the species name either. Here in Malaysia, there are two species called "ikan semilang" and "ikan keli" (FYI, eels are called "belut"). One's freshwater, the other's marine/brackish. Unagi's amazing too, but I think that's because the sauce is just irresistable, heh =)

And third in my list is salmon. But I may be biased because of their out-of-the-ordinary meat colour for fish. And there you have it. List yours!

1 sweet potato or more
peel , cut into squares.
Use a smallish pot, melt about 50grams butter, add sweet potato, about 4 tablespoons of sugar, some salt and a piece of orange peel, fry for a bit then add enough water to cover mixture.
Ready when soft and let it boil down till it reaches the frying stage.
YUMMYYYY. you can eat it with some custard as a pudding or as a side - dish.

Try it you won't be sorry:)

I bought these chocolates once, with different flavours in the centre. There were strawberry, orange, caramel, and others. Anyway, one of them was truffle-flavoured. But when I bit into it, it tasted just like normal chocolate. Did eating the other flavours change my sense of taste? I thought truffles tasted mushroom-y... Mind you, the chocolates were bought at the airport. They were made by some company whose name I can't remember (I think it starts with a G).

It's just a regular run of the mill BBQ sauce but now it's fantastic after cooking the pork.
I was thinking of adding a can of black-eyed peas, raw white rice and some precooked wild rice to the pot full of sauce with maybe some fried onions.

Will THAT work? What spices should I add? Maybe try going towards a chili tasking kind of concoction?

Picadillo

Ingredients:
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 large russet potatoes, peeled and diced into 1/2" cubes
1/2 cup yellow onion, diced fine (1/4" or less)
1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced fine (1/4" or less)
1 tablespoon fresh garlic, minced fine
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin (comino)
2 large tomatoes, cut into 1/2" pieces

Directions:
Heat a large skillet and add the olive oil. Add the ground beef, crumbling as you put it in the skillet. When lightly browned, add the onions, bell pepper, garlic, and all the spices. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring often, and then add the diced potatoes. Cover, reduce the heat to medium low and cook for 40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Add the tomatoes, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, put into a bowl and serve over white rice. In Puerto Rico we add red kidney beans on the side and fried plantains. Yum!
