The best way is to start with the basics, say you never tasted Mexican food, start with the tortilla eaten with your regular food you like, then gradually add, beans, Mexican cheeses and salsas, PRESTO, pretty soon you are actually eating Mexican food you never tasted before and you discover it is really yummy. Start that way with other foods (specially foreign to you), You will find it an adventure to try small amounts of foods and drinks added to your regular meals. Eventually you will be looking forward to trying new and different foods. You may even become a connoisseur. . pick up some ethnic cook books and try recipes that sound really strange to you, you will discover interesting and exciting spices, herbs and foods that you have never tasted before but are really, really yummy.

It might be easier on you if you know what the ingredients are of the new dishes. That way you have something you can identify with and your mouth will know what tastes to expect.

I find that most commercial foods have the same stuff in them, it's mostly just the way they are prepared. So if you follow your normal rules, like staying away from things squishy or something you should be OK.

Think of eating new foods like meeting new people. Everyone is different, and should be appreciated for what they are. Maybe you don't like sarcasm, but you meet a sarcastic person. You have to accept and sort of learn to appreciate sarcasm. It's the same with new tastes. You have to like them for what you initially might perceive as their faults. Take anchovies. Most people don't like them, but if you learn to like the fact that they are super salty and slippery and a little weird, you will like anchovies! Just because a taste is bad to you at first doesn't mean you can't appreciate it. And if you start to like bad tastes, eventually you won't think of them as bad anymore. Force yourself to try new foods at least once, then find something you like about every new food you try.

you should be open to new foods. U can think of the food that you don't want to eat as the yummiest food in the world! you can aslo close your eyes or keep your attention away from the food and to a book or TV.
Anyway, hope I helped!

Try things a little at a time.
Say you LOVE chicken. Try new recipies or foods that have chicken in them. If you've never had Jerk chicken, try it because it has chicken. Taste one new seasoning at a time.

And yes, close your eyes and open your mouth. Have friends cook for you but not tell you what they are. Guess. Sample in small portions.
