It seems to me that all my friends that have kids change. I know they have responcibilities now and I get that but why do they have to become replicas of their parents or at least lesser versions of themselves?

my boyfriend and i moved in together 12 months ago, into a house around the corner from his ex and 2 children and it has been good because he could see his kids all the time and his ex and him are still good friends but now we have broken up. we still love each other but we know our relationship wont last because we have different expectations of each other, so our break up has been a head choise not a heart choise.
i will see him going past my house all the time to see his kids and it will be really hard because my 2 kids will also see him and they wont understand why he isnt stopping to see us.
should i pack up my kids and move again to avoid the hurt?

Our dog passed this morning, I did not tell the kids because they were on the way out to school. I will tell them this afternoon. Harley the dog was 5 years old and was poisoned by a rancher w/ coyote bait. I don't want to tell them how he went.
I don't know how to handle this. I know it will be very hard on my 13 year old as it was "his" dog.
Please help

Care to share the best single event kind of story that a parent did for you when growing up? Not general stuff like cared, and made me do homework, but something that was a one time thing.

One day I woke up to find an entire new Barbie doll wardrobe on the twin bed next to me. She couldn't sleep and sewed them in the night. That still stays with me.

am the 4th in my family, my name is Joseph Anthony the IV. My wife and I are having a debate whether to keep this tradtion going. I think I want to, although i am not a big fan of the name joseph, i love the name anthony so we would call him anthony, his middle name. My wife does not like the idea. She says she just doesnt like numbering kids (she is a teacher if you cant tell) this is an issue we are having difficulty agreeing on. What do outsiders think looking in. Should we continue our tradition, or move on? We have defintily decided we are going to call him anthony, but my wife wants his middle name to be dillon, which is her family name. She says this way we are combining both of our families traditions not just mine. Thanks for any input...

Do you think it's bad for a 2-year-old to like music videos? My niece watches BET and MTV and listens to HipHop and R&B music. She likes Yung Joc's "I Know You See It," "It's Goin' Down," Young Dro's "Shouler Lean," Cherish's "Do It" and a lot of other things, too. She actually sings the lyrics and some people in our family think it's cute. Her parents don't really mind it, but they make comments about her like "why are you guys teaching my baby rap?" or "Thanks to you, I have a rapping 2-year-old in my back seat," but it's always said jokingly and it's always said to my sister (since she's usually the one that listens to music constantly).

I'm just wondering if you think it's wrong for her to listen to it or if it doesn't matter. She will be going to daycare and she does tend to sing it without realizing it, like when she's coloring or playing with her dolls.

I have been with my wife for 5 years, I am 25 years old.

No one in her family or mine has asked about us having children.

Yes, we are “young” but it’s been 5 years!

We are planning to start trying for our first child in a few months.

I have other friends who have families that asked about them having children all of the time.

We have excellent careers, a stable marriage, no debt and a house that will paid off in a few months.

So its not like we are in a bad situation to have children.

I am started to get paranoid like maybe they don’t want us to have children or they just don’t care.

Is it weird that no one in my family has asked me about starting a family?

I get a little confused when someone asks what my relation is to my cousin's child or what my father-in-law's first cousin's son is to my husband. Calling a cousin an uncle-cousin sounds a little strange. Does anyone know a good website to explain all this?
