my daughter wouldn't be dating a thug because i would teach her better than that. however, tattoos and piercings aren't necessarily thug things. i have two piercings myself, and am nothing of a thug. my gf's parents love me. also, i think you're taking a risk by letting her date someone seven years older. that's just me, but you'd better keep an eye on them.

You know as a parent looks arent everything just because of tatts and piercings doesn't mean that this person is a thug............you said that he treated her good and isn't that all that matters for your daughter is that she finds someone that treats her with respect. So take a look at the whole picture not just his looks, now depending on her age things can be different if he is 7 years older than her but if she is 18 cut the cord and let life teach her a lesson.

My daughter was dating a man 20 years older than her! We had a fit about it in private, but knew that we had to keep an open mind or she'd bolt with him. He was worse than a thug - he was a thief and an alcoholic, had Hepatitis C and a son plus spent time in jail more than once. He was homeless and jobless. She was 15 and he was 35 when they met online and we thought we had been VERY careful about internet usage at our house yet she still managed to fool us until she was 17 and our hands were legally tied with accusing him of fraternizing with a minor. It was a horrible time for us as parents. In a bizarre turn of events, he died (no, my husband did NOT kill him although it was discussed several times). My daughter found him dead in a hotel room. It was sad, but we can't lie and say we weren't glad to have that relationship ended. If your daughter's boyfriend treats her good and respects her and she is no longer a minor, then you will probably have the best luck accepting the relationship as it is. The more you complain, the harder she will try to stick up for him. Meanwhile, our daughter's finances and credit report are in the toilet (she gave him money and never paid her bills) plus she is still living at home trying to get back on track. She's only 21 and has already lived through some hard times. Be there to support your daughter and hopefully it'll all work out eventually.

By the way - we never thought this daughter would do anything like this. She was active in our church and at school, had many friends her age, was outgoing and well-adjusted. She was always the "helper", the one who friends took their problems to. Her friends were always at our house. In the end, her compassionate nature took her places she shouldn't have gone and none of us, not even her best friend knew she was seeing this guy and how serious they had become. Don't think your kids won't do this kind of thing because you never know.

If he is in a gang, your daughter should not date him. You may not realize it but she is being associated with the gang threw him. Other than that if he treats her good and follows the rules then it is okay...Wait 7 years older? How old is she? That is a big difference if she is under 18, then it is considered illegal..What can a 24 year old have in common 17 year old? See what I mean?

There is a saying " don't judge a book by it's cover. i personally think that the piercings you are talking about is for people who think too low of them self. They feel they have to noticed some how, and that's the only way they think they can be noticed. Not everybody with piercings is a bad person.
Does this person have a future? Your daughter should use good judgment as far as a relationship is concern, if she's got plans for a good future.
Besides, how old is you daughter?
If she is a minor than, yes, you can do something about it.

First of all, how old is the daughter? If she isn't underage, and he treats her well and she is happy, then I would stay out of it....Him being 7 years older doesn't really matter unless she is 15-16 (or somewhere in that range...or younger). If he treats her right then it wouldn't matter what he looked like....and tats and piercings aren't exactly the definition of a "thug."

Tattoos and piercings don't make a thug! If he treats her good and respects her what else? I would be happy as long as my daughter is respected! Age isn't really a problem, only 7 years older isn't anything to worry about. Besider we all know that girls mature much before boys so 7 years just makes him her equal!

Whoa Whoa Whoa. My BF is seven years older than i am has numerous tattoos and a few piercings but i wouldnt say he is a thug. Now i know my mother doesnt like his tattoos or piercings and quite frankly i'm not fond of them either BUT he is a decent guy and treats me with respect just as you described your daughter's boyfriend so what IS the problem?!

How old is this daughter? If she's fifteen, then there is a problem with that but only because she is too young. If she's twenty-five, leave them go. My husband has six tats and his toungue done. He's the farthest from a thug that you could possibly get. As long as he respects her and treats her good, it shouldn't matter what he looks like.

I say pretend that you like him. If she knows you don't like him she will date him just to spite you. I know when I was a kid I did. If you raised her right than I am sure she will leave him eventually. Just lay down restrictions, no thug wants to date a daughter that has to be home at midnight on the weekends, because that's when the party starts.
