Because most people are opportunists, working multiple angles to their own advantage. Sadly they don't often realize the people they're hurting. Try and sit down and explain to them why their behaviour is bothering you.

family or not, people always have their own agendas. some need to be on top of things or in the know in order to make themselves feel good. others don't want to be left out regardless of who gets hurt. it's a deep rooted trait they either grew up with or learned. it's an attention thing for the most part. they have to be in the spotlight and always know what's up for fear that they true personalities will not garner any attention on their own.

It's human nature, when you have nothing to talk about you start thinking of the people closest to you and stuff just comes out.
