I am an EFL teacher with a degree and celta recognition, but in London they refuse to offer me a job since I am not a native speaker, I do not have a British accent, I admit, it's quite American, but do you think it is fair to turn qualified people down just because they are non-natives? What do you think???

What should I get for my teacher at the end of the year?

I'm going into 9th grade, so this is the last time I'll see her.

I have a really close connection with her, I've had a lot of problems this year and she's been there for me.

I don't know what to do, and I know I want to get her something.

=/ Any suggestions? Nothing cheesy, like, "Great teacher" things.

Something... I don't know. =/ That's why I asked. o.o

Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm looking for a math tutor, and I've heard of Sylvan, but is it just for kids? I'm 25 and looking to freshen up on basic math for an upcoming NET test. Are there any other tutoring services for adults that you know of? Provide links if possible. Thank you.

I have taken a weekend TEFL course and may take the Trinity Cert.TESOL in the summer but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it without a degree.
Some countries (esp. Asia) require a uni/college degree to get a work Visa. And even when its not required, often job ads specify degree required. So what are my prospects without a degree if I don't want to lie and don't want to work illegally?

I am doing a senior project on about my future as a teacher. You can just list them, or say a few and explain them. Think of your favorite and best teachers, why were they that for you?
If you're a parent you can think of what teachers have done that works well for your kids. Heck ask your kids, who is their favorite teacher and why?

I need response from all ages and levels of education, so if you answer this question i would request you say your age (or age range) and your level of education.

If your are a teacher or have been a teacher, do you think there are qualities or traits a teacher need to be a good teacher? What lessons did you have to learn as a new teacher?

If you answer this question as a teacher i would ask you to please state what grade and subject you teach. Maybe even how long you have been teaching too.

Thank you!!!

People want native teachers but is it really always good? I learned English mostly from my friend who is German but speaks English very well. He could teach me things which I didn't understand and was wondering about but friends who are native English speakers couldn't understand what I didn't understand often because all of the things I was wondering about are all natural things for the native speakers.
For advanced student, native speakers are the best for the teaching but I doubt if it's good to be taught by native English speakers if you are a beginner.

there is now a museum in Petersburg KY where children can go to learn that dinosaurs were in Noah's Ark...

i don't know whether to see it as a problem or a challenge. if it was just the teacher and the kids, i'd call it challenge - but with parents involved, i'm afraid it's a problem.
what do you think?
