why does my croos have a skull on the bottom?

i've had the cross scine i was little and i noticed that at the bottom it has a skull with two bones nialed to the bottom. i was searching on line but i could not find any answers. please help me

Probably represents Golgotha, or the hill of the skull where the Crucifixion took place.
