I'm teaching one MS SS cource this year. My current event strategy was a bit too much for my students and has kind of fallen apart.

If you do weekly current events, what strategy do you do that is simple-but-effective each Friday? I'd like it to involve writing a bit, too, if it's possible.

Thanks!!!!

There is one mistake in the conversation below. what is it and how would you explain it?

"Is John ill? He's lost a lot of weight."
"Yes, he is rather slender these days, isn't he?"

When you start a sentence with two dependent clauses, how do you punctuate them?

dependen clause (dc) independent clause (ic)

e.g. When I go to the mall(dc) if i see it(dc) i will buy it for you(ic)

As we gathered around the coach(dc) after we scored the touchdown(dc) we began to feel more confident(ic)

ok, so many of you holier than thou *** holes gave a response to my question, but very few of you actually answered it. my new question is, where the hell did most all of you go to school? obviously, none of you ever took an english class, or didn't pay any attention, judging by the atrocious spelling i see here. I mean, seriously, almost EVERY answer I have read, as well as the questions, have numerous mis-spellings. I feel very sad, if this is the best our schools can do.

Why are they so rude when they are no better than me they just have a better job? how do they get so full of themselves. If you are an " educator" Please fill me in !

I'm looking for advice from a seasoned teacher or educational administrator. I am trying to career change from accounting (no, I'm not a CPA or anything) to teaching. Teaching has always been my goal, but frankly I was side-tracked by the money offered me as an accountant. Now I have the ability to take the lower pay into order to do the work that I love. Right now I am working part-time as an accountant and part-time as an afterschool teacher for troubled kids (kicked out of other afterschool programs). But what I really want is a full-time teaching job in a middle school as a Reading/Language Arts teacher. I am licensed as a secondary English teacher and as a Reading teacher for all levels. But I have almost no contacts in education circles. Can anyone give me adivce on how to get myself and my C.V. noticed?

Thanks so much for your time!

J

I am a first year teacher at an urban school in california, and although my fourth grade class is a great group of kids, they are really noisy.
i dont mean that I have just a few noisy kids...it may sound funny, but it seems like the entire class gets noisy all at once. I've tried everything I can think of, but it still is a problem at least a few times a day, and it's beginning to make it difficult to teach....help!

I've been battling this since the 1rst week of school. The teacher aims to reach the struggling kids w/o advanced work for the others. She hands out worksheet after worksheet. My daughter cries and begs to be homeschooled, she has asked me for a teacher that is more difficult and complained repeatedly that she is bored and not challenged. (her words, not mine)
Her K teacher was a veteran with high expectations. She pushed the kids very hard and got results. All summer, my child wanted to go back to school ... now I have to drag her out of the house each day.
I've been to the VP 3x.(getting to the principal is like getting to see the Wizard of Oz). I have met with the VP, the teacher and the gifted program dir. together. They tested her for the gifted program and she was denied by 2 pts on 1 part of the assessment.
The g.p. was the only pos. reinforcement she's gotten all yr! What can I do now? My child is still not challenged and they are not offering her any solutions.
