can you manage doing both? I know that it sound like a lot, but many people double major these days.
with a degree in both areas, you could go on to get a credential in both areas, which will make it extremly easy for you to get a job...
(you would of course, do one program first, and could then take night classes or do a summer program to get your other certification)
and just think...if you get bored after a few years, you could switch subjects!

I suggest either history or both. English teachers are a "dime a dozen"... there are dozens, if not hundreds of applications for each opening. Only the larger schools offer a variety of English courses on the high school level (such as creative writing, business English, etc.).
There are more history jobs available because states are increasing their graduation requirements in history, and there are more directions that you can go in history.
If you can possibly manage a double major, you will have a lot of marketability and then job security!

You hate math and chem and you say one of the choices is an Oncologist the amount of education shouldn't intimidate you the Math and science should. Anyways you have to look at your future what do you want to achieve in life like do you intend to have a very comfortable life if so the Oncologist or Lawyer would be the right choice if you want to mold and help future generations with a sacrifice of pay then Teaching would be the right choice so you have to consider what you want in life and then go for your career path. For example I wanted to be a Soldier so I enlisted into the Army while I was in I went to college since I knew I would retire and need a job. I was wounded and discharged but I was able to finish my degree programs the driving force behind my discision on my degrees were money since I wouldnt be a Soldier forever I wanted a lot of it and live comfortable. What is it that you want in your life how do you see your life style and go from there. Check out some of the links that I have provided.

Teach history, I will be forever in your debt if you can stop just one person from supporting these conspiracy theories.
Seriously, learning history can help change tomorrow. And we definitely need a better one. Though, I think, that English and writing should be taught in every class, not just English. Make sure your students an up with a good mastery of the English language.

Honestly, since the No Left Behind act requires that teachers have to have a degree in the area that they teach, this country is in a serious shortage of teachers in the math and sciences. If you want to be guaranteed a teaching job, choose math or science.

History. Most states do not give a standardized state assessment in history (yet). Your job will be about preparing students for the state reading and writing assessment if you become an english teacher - not fun.

While history teaching is very popular, the demand for HS english teachers is much greater. If you're equally interested, I suggest going for english ed, since you have a better chance of actually finding a job.

A combination of both would qualify you to teach humanities, which, at least in Independent high schools, is a big deal. Qualify yourself to teach as much as possible to make yourself more marketable.
