My daughter was accepted at an Outward Bound style charter school that runs from kindergarten through 12th grade. I'm excited about getting her out of a regular public school into a more thought-provoking way of learning but I'm concerned that she'll miss out on the "normal" growing pains of moving from elem school to middle school to high school. Is it better to stay with the same group through-out the early learning years until college or to be given the opportunity to change every few years?
She's been at the same school now with the same group for 3 years (she's in 2nd grade going to 3rd). She is very outgoing and adaptive, she has a lot of change and drama in her life thanks to her dad so I'm thinking the consistancy would be good for her. However, I don't want to prevent her from experiencing the "rights of passage" that her friends will be going through.

Most teens and adults have no clue what safe sex is ! I'm surprised we don't have half our people dying of aids, like they do in Africa .For them it is lack of education.

I know many people are really disappointed with public education these days, depending on their location. We would certainly love to see it improve drastically. What is the root of the problem? How could it be realistically transformed to better meet needs and expectations for the future of our nation?

Why is English a compulsory course to do the HSC? I mean, people argue that English is the most important subject because you'll get no where if you can't communicate with others etc etc... but all we do is look at poetry Shakespeare and novels and films and extracts from the Wind in the Willows, for gods sake. Why is it so important to know how to critically analyse texts?? Surely it should only be optional. What do you think??

Isn't it around the 6 th grade? The most sold newspapers are written on the 6 th grade reading level...meaning that most Americans cannot read beyond what a 12 year old should read at.

How come bullies, thugs, disrupters, bitches and nasty types get to stay in school but harmless nice girls who appear in say Playboy or in the UK page 3 (ie topless in a newspaper) get expelled when they did no wrong.

Where right and wrong is determined not by rules but if you were malicious, nasty, hurtful, endangerous others or simply stoppling everyone learning by unjustly disrupting lessons.

Or shock horror falling in love and being caught holding hand, kissing, cuddling or having sex even if over the age of concent (something all the teachers and head gets to do)

Example Samantha Fox in the 80s and this polish student expelled just before her uni entrance exams (equiv A Levels)

I've graduated from Continental Academy on September 12, 2005. It is a home based high school located in Miramar, Florida. When I graduated, I found out they weren't accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. As of May 10, 2006, they were awarded accreditation by the SACS & CITA, which are both U.S. recogized agencies. I wanted to know if employers & colleges will accept my diploma. Will they say they can't accept it because it was un-accredited at the time of my graduation? I've heard of a few colleges & governments that wont accept it. I'm twenty years old, and would feel really embarrassed & ashamed if I have to go back to high school. Any information would be helpful. I've provided links to the school website & accrediting agencies below.

In primary school, in the first year class I had a teacher who used to grab us by the arm and virtually swing us around if we did something wrong. Ouch!

In the third year class I had a teacher who was a sadist who enjoyed humiliating whoever got shxx marks in maths. He used to have a drawer full of balls and every morning used to throw them at us, he caught one girl in the eye making her cry, and he told her to not be such a baby.

Sports teacher in high school - hated your guts if you were'nt good at sports particularily football(soccer for you Americans) I still see him sometimes, but he doesn't recognise me after all the years. Stupid Fcukr even had different coloured flasks depending on what colour sweater he would be wearing.
