Preschool age may depend on which state you live in. In my state Preschool (aka Pre-K) begins at age 4. There could be some private schools that start earlier than that. Again in my state, while preschool gives them a boost, it isn't required.

Expenses aside, three years old is the perfect time to send a child to preschool. Preschool emphasizes socialization and basic knowledge. They are not going to test him in academics! Perhaps you can send him only in the morning or three days/week to begin.
