Isn't it around the 6 th grade? The most sold newspapers are written on the 6 th grade reading level...meaning that most Americans cannot read beyond what a 12 year old should read at.

Yes... it's true.

Many Americans can't read beyond what a middle school student can read, the people should focus more in this types of things, because that is serious stuff that they need to achieve goals on their jobs and earn better money during lifetime, that's why many states are taking this seriously and implementing standardized testing like the FCAT and WASL

But we can help our future generations to achieve these goals in order to keep USA a successful country.

your correct - and with slang terms accepted on Tech-messaging and the influx of Spanish only we are really dragging our comprehensions of English down
