My daughter was accepted at an Outward Bound style charter school that runs from kindergarten through 12th grade. I'm excited about getting her out of a regular public school into a more thought-provoking way of learning but I'm concerned that she'll miss out on the "normal" growing pains of moving from elem school to middle school to high school. Is it better to stay with the same group through-out the early learning years until college or to be given the opportunity to change every few years?
She's been at the same school now with the same group for 3 years (she's in 2nd grade going to 3rd). She is very outgoing and adaptive, she has a lot of change and drama in her life thanks to her dad so I'm thinking the consistancy would be good for her. However, I don't want to prevent her from experiencing the "rights of passage" that her friends will be going through.

i think that unless that the school she is in right now is really crappy, then let her stay there. on the other hand, shes young enough that it wont be quite as bad as if you decide to switch her at a later time. i dont think that moving to a new school will change her learning ability(not saying she's slow at all) to an extent that it will matter in the real world. i say leave her in the school shes in now since shell be able to stay with her friends, and maintain that stability you want her to have.

If you are comparing her to her friends now, you have problems from the get go. What does she want to do? She is not too young to know. Whatever her choice she should stay in the same school as long as possible.

Maybe you should keep her in this charter
school for a couple of years and then when
she gets to the age where she's going
into middle school or high school, ask her
if she would like to transfer out and go
to a public school.

The world changes constantly and your daughter should be prepared to change with it. By remaining in the same environment for 12 years, she will be completely overwhelmed when she has to face college and the world in general. I believe you (although unintentionally) are doing her a grave disservice.
