Primary & Secondary Education - April 2007

I cant understand why there are parents out there who think that it is ok to raise children to be disrespectful, spoiled, entitled and lazy. In my profession I see many parents who dont hold there children responsible for any of their behaviors. Do these parents really think that they are doing their children a favor when they fight the school on every issue that concerns their children? Do they really think that their children are going to be able to survive in college when they cant even complete a 5 problem math assignment on their own. Why do certain parents think it is the teachers fault that THEIR child is lazy? I wonder if they plan on going to whatever college their kid would be lucky to get into, to yell at the teacher b/c the term paper they assigned was too hard and stressful? They are raising kids who will be unemployable, dregs of society. Please help me out on this one.

How do you feel about parents that just drop their kids off at school and treat it like free day care? Do you feel that schools should require parent involvement in their child's education?

I dropped out of high school at 16 to get a job and support my disabled parents, and now i'm still supporting them, 6 years later, and want something more out of my life except my current job when they pass away (it's not long, both are elderly, and quite disabled), but I don't want to leave them stranded, up a creak without a paddle. On thier current income, they can't survive, they get about $500 a month between the 2 of them, and it's very hard for them to get by. Not sure what to do, don't want to abandon them, but don't want to be left stranded either when they aren't around anymore.

Ok, so I'm a highschool student and today when my Biology class ended the teacher asked to see me after class. I thought it would only be for 5 minutes. But she ended up using almost all of my next period, which was my lunch period, and by the time I got to lunch I wasn't able to eat, thanks to her delay. During this discussion she told me she was gonna "make me" miss my other lunches and "make me" stay after school. She ended up making me extremely upset, ruining my lunch, and ruining my day, among other things. My question is, Is it legal for a teacher to keep a student in the classroom against their will if the teachers class is over?

I need help with some strategies with K students. I have tried... wait time, rewards, praise, one on one talks, time-out, behavior charts, yelling, heads down, lights off, ringing a bell, playing music, closing blinds, opening blinds, etc. Nothing is working with these kids.

My GPA is currently 3.9; maintained all A's except for an 89 in Geometry (I'm never going to forget it) and a B for gym but my final average for gym is a 90 (goes to show my school is stupid). Either way my GPA is 3.9 since my school goes A,B,C,D and F; no pluses. I'm going to bring it up to 4.0 in my junior year.

My parents say English gives more opportunity, and therefore it would mean i would be more likely do be better paid.

I live in Charlotte, NC and CMS school is horrible. He is failing miserably and I am beginning to feel that his teachers are starting to bail on him. We have reached a point that we want other alternatives i.e. private school. home schooling, etc... Although we are not poor we cannot afford the cost of tuition. I know that we could apply for scholarships but know that the chance of receiving one would be slim to none. Is there other avenues that I look into for assistance. I have found that I can apply for medicaid for him with his ADHD as a disability but am not sure if this is true. Even though I know that our financial is above there standards. Thank you for your help....

I pay $688 per year for schools in my county. Why should I have to pay those taxes, because I do not have a child in school? Parents with children should bear that burden, not me. I'm not against education, but it is my choice not to have a child and I should not be assessed taxes for other people's children. They get federal tax deductions for having children, but I don't. I'm trying to put myself through higher education and could put those taxes I pay toward my own education. Can anyone politely tell me why I should pay for someone else to go to school when I can't afford to pay for my own education?
