I found that if I wrote down important ideas from whatever text I was reading that they were "stamped" into my memory. Make sure you eat well and sleep. If you stay up really late and cram without food, your brain will be too tired and exhausted to remember the information that you are trying to learn. *Protein is good brain food! Good Luck on your exams!

Repetition is the branding iron of the intellect.

if repeating doesn't work, try neumonic(sp) devices, little word devices that help you remember facts. (ex. King Phillip Came Over For Great Soup is a device for Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species)
Come up with some of your own.

Most of all, you can't remember things if you don't have a good understanding of them.

Read it, try and decipher it in your head, close the textbook and write it down in your own words.

If you need to learn definitions/equations, copy it out, fold the paper you are writing it on and write the same thing again from memory. If it didn't work, start again.

Most people use word association. An example is if you want to remember a machine name think of what it does.
