I seemed to have tried everything with my 12 year old daughter and her homework/study skills.
I keep up-to-date on assignments and remind her of these deadlines.
We made a set schedule and time to do homework.
I give her free time after school before homework is to be done.
I've also tried having her do homework right after school.
I help her by quizzing, making study sheets, etc. for upcoming tests.
I'm good about letting her be independent in getting the work completed. (I don't stand over her shoulder)
I also encourage her to finish homework at school.

Nothing! I mean nothing has worked. My 6th grader is not motivated, does not listen, and is a free spirit.
If I did not remind her to start her homework, she would wait until 10:00 pm or never do it at all.

Do you think I should just 'let-it-go'? At this point I've exhausted all my ideas. I'd hate for her to fail but if that's what it takes I would be willing to try.

Any ideas?

My son is very intelligent, kinda on the nerdy side. I want to put him into a club that meets once a week to do various arts and crafts or games. Just like a group to make friends and have fun. He is a little interested in karate, although I think that something more artsy would be better for him. I live on Long Island, NY. I have checked out the public library and their activities are not long term and/or what I am looking for. Do any places have these types of clubs or programs I am looking for??

Thanks!

I wanted to go to an ivy league, but I feel like I've lost all hope in that aspect. But anyways, I'm a freshman, and my grades are as follows:
10H English - B+
10H Global History - A+
9H Biology - B or B+
10R Math - A
French 10H - A
Orchestra - A
I also do fencing, which I plan on continuing through high school. I'm in a local volunteer club, French club, and an environment club. Next year I plan on volunteering abroad. My grades are rather inconsistent, and I don't know how to change that. I used to be one of the top students in my class, but everything's just been going downhill. My brother goes to Princeton, and everyone has high expectations for me. I also had high expectations for myself. But I don't know... am I on the right track, what do I do to change, etc?

We need healthy foods that would pass the new district health plan for schools to be sold in a school student store. These idoms should be healthy but enjoyable at the same time.

It seems that many school districts in the US began moving sixth grade out of their K-6 schools and created a 6-8 middle school. The elementary school then became K-5. I've read several studies that found that sixth graders had higher academic achievement, self-esteem, and fewer behavioral problems in elementary schools. So why has the majority of the country abandoned the K-6 school in favor of the K-5 school? Are they just going along with the masses?

March of the Penguins

Although, penguins are considered as birds, in fact they’re very different in some ways; such as, they can not fly or make their living in hot weather. Penguins take the long dangerous journey continued over 1000 years. The destination is always the same. Penguins may be assisted by the sun or the stars. They arrive at the same place where each one of them was born.

Far from water’s age, ice stays solid until summer. After the precarious route, penguins look for their partner and create a family among each other. The egg will appear hidden from the cold and the wind until the storm is over. Both mother and father take great care and try to keep their egg alive. The female penguin goes to the sea to find food for its baby. It is definitely exhausted but she forces herself to walk several miles. The search will last for many days. Her life will be in great danger and their predators (seals) will certainly be happy. Though light return, worst is actually yet to come. No matter how cold or hungry it is, it will keep moving.

After many miles, life begins, yet not enough. The penguins’ efforts are not invaded. Occasionally, the family will spend some time together until their egg brakes, the partnership between the male and the female penguin is over.

In time, their little chick, like a child dances, their chick will take its first step. From the sun, the chick grows stronger each day, but yet not strong enough to leave its mother.

As winter begins to weaken, ice melts, returning the borrowed water to the sea. The chick is older now and ready to make living on its own. The chick is left alone for the fist time, unsupervised but will grow stronger everyday.
