I am studying German on my own, through audio tapes and discs. I would like to find short stories, etc, for very early readers (children!)

My son is 7 years old and he is not doing that great in school. He has 3 C's and 2 F's. His teachers wrote me a note to meet with them. In the meeting they basically told me to hold him back I thought it was volountary. She even tried to get me to sign a paper agreeing to it. I called her the following day and told her that we had 2 mor months of school left why are they just giving up on him she told me that they were doing me a courtesy to tell me that he was going to fail so that it wouldn't be a shock at the end of the year. The subject that they want to hold him back in is reading but he has a 80 in reading that is passing. I am working really hard with him to pull up the 2 F's and that I think should be acceptable. My only problem is I believe they just want to hold him back. I asked his teacher before about counciling and she kinda shrugged it off. Why couldn't they have told me sooner before now. Is there anything I can do to stop them. What about the No Child Left Behind act.

I am posting questions in order for some logical teachers to respond but I am receiveing some answers that are unethical by those that claim to be educators. It makes you wonder if these type of behaviors are normal in our public classrooms across America. Even when I write poorly constructed sentences, I am being called names. I don't know if any parent would want their child subjected to any type of belittlement by a public educator. We are all adults at least I hope that some of us will take the time to understand what it means to be an adult. And all the more a public educator. I just ask if you don't have anything educated and positive to respond to any question the reflectives the well-being of our children and their future in our public classrooms go and reflect on something that gives you ethical judgment and appropriate problem-solving suggestions on how to answer question. To all of those that are really teachers I understand the pains that you are going through.

We are moving to Hamilton in July this year. My older kid is going into Grade 8 and my younger into Grade 6. I know that they can go to any school as long as we live in its catchment area (an improvement over the UK system) but without league tables how do I choose a good school? We would like to live on Hamilton Mountain or Central. Can anyone advise me? My kids are fairly academic and the younger one loves sports. I would like them to be in a school with a mixed social/ethnic background.

As some one who was bullied till the second year at high school, I know what it feels like to dread arriving at school. To feel the absolute misery of spending breaks and lunch wandering round alone, avoiding certain students. It wasn't character builiding. A nightmare. I had to wait till I grew another foot taller before it stopped.

That it's still allowed to go on today unchecked, and is only highlighted when some poor kid (or even their mother as was recently the case!) tops themself, is a sad indictment. Some (not all!) parents seem to be alright with knowing its happening; as long as its not their kid getting bullied. Or worse, if their child is the bully.

I believe children who bully others should be removed from the mainstream classroom. Placed in a trouble makers division (along with disruptors) under stricter teachers. Serve detention, and be monitored far more closely. And further bullying should be classed as criminal. Disciplined, then if it continues, prosecuted.

My daughter was refused to doing her own options at school, she wants to do hair and beauty they told us it was a waste of her potential saying she is too intelligent I found this violated her rights to pick what she wants to do in life, and so after getting no joy from school we went to local press the sheffield star. Due to this the yorkshire post got in contact with us then calendar news wanted to air it on our local T.V programmes, we did all this purely to help her because kids do not ask to be born we wanted our children and will back their choices in life all the way if they don't harm themselves obviously. Now school has taken notice and wish to see me, how would you deal with this?
I want my daughter to do something she truly desires and not be forced to take subjects she has no interest in otherwise then her grades will start to drop and she will not want to go to lessons she has no desire to do, any answers are much appreciated got to go to meeting at 12.15 thanks Clare.
