I think single sex schools are the best in education. There`s no distraction by the opposite sex. You can learn male/female skills like cookery, needlework or woodwork. I went to a single sex school from the age of 7 and I don`t think I missed out by not mixing with boys. I was quite shy at school and think that to have had boys there witnessing it would have made it even more torturous.

There are two sides to this question. From a purely academic point of view mono education will probably give the best results, especially for girls.Where there are still top class grammar schools they are usually single sex education. They may have both girls and boys but they are educated separately in separate buildings.Dual sex education will more affect the social development of young people There might be a degree of competition between boys and girls which can help, but being in the same classes will enable young people to be more relaxed and comfortable with their opposite gender whereas mono education will emphasise the sense of difference. When going on to further education which is almost always of the dual category the young people from a mono background may be at a disadvantage for a while.

Many studies have been done on this topic. Same sex education has proven more effective, at least up into the teens. This is most likely due to a lack of distraction and communication ease which occurs amongst young children of the same sex. I am in line with whichever method yields results.

I am in favour of whichever works best.
I am presuming you're asking about all boys in one class and all girls in one class. But I feel you are being a plum!
My teenage daughter found the distractions in pop idols, and as none of the lads at her school are that impressive, I don't think it really matters to some!
Might be more sensible to have discussions all female & all male, a more honest & open discussion time!

I'm assuming you mean coed versus same sex school? If this is what you're talking about, then I used to think that coed was the best so that boys and girls get to socialise - it's a more natural social mix they will experience all their life.

As a parent, though, I'm beginning to believe that same sex schools, especially for boys, is more ideal. Boys schools are able to deliver education in a manner more suited to boys. A friend went to a same sex school and he said one of the best things was that it allowed him to be a boy - he didn't worry about looking cool for the girls. They played at recess, they didn't just lounge around 'too cool'. And socially, they had plenty of opportunities to mix after school and at functions.

Society is made up of males and females and SRE (sex and relationship education) lessons, to be really meaningful, ought to explore the dynamics and tensions between the sexes.
In this country too much is compartmentalised - it's like sexual appartheid!
