Look to your child! For instance...does he like toys that are racecars..find a project on fuel used or different types of fuel- if he likes the planets how about rotation in our galaxy...if he loves to swim- how about the moon's ability to cause the tides in the oceans? Keep what HE is interested in and when you focus on something he loves- look on the net, the library, talk to people involved with that kind of job or have him write letters to someone or a company that deals with that.
Don't underestimate what he's capable of...my boys 7 and if you give him funny experiments to do he learns so much!
Keeping him invoved with something he enjoys makes it less of a "science assignment" and more of a "learning fun".

The best thing to do is to ask him to think of a question about something that he can test to find an answer for, like, Which brand of bubble gum keeps it's flavor the longest? If not, try this website:

Hm....something involving food coloring. I loved food coloring. Like, take a flower or a piece of celery and stick it in a glass of red water. See if the plant brings the color up with the water. If it does the stem and maybe even the flower will get pinkish.

Well, science begins at home. How about doing something with water and oil, how the oil is lighter. Any other liquids around the house that would separate??

have him make silly puddy...its fun and easy! all it is, is equal parts white glue and liquid startch (liquid startch is powdered startch with water to make loose paste)add food coloring (get the neon colors for more fun) and mix...

you could also add fine glitter.

also here is a site that has a bunch of great ideas..my daughter and I do atleast one of these a week.
