I don't know how people can speak so authoritatively about India, when they don't know S*** about it. Like my friend who answered above.

India had a woman head of state long before any other country had, and the most 'empowered' country in the world, the United States, is yet to have one. We have had women becoming the Judges to the Supreme Court, as Chief Justices to the High Courts of the States, we have people like Kiran Bedi, IPS, and yet you call women in India the weaker section.

To talk of high schools for girls, there are numerous schools that are only for girls. In Trivandrum, Kerala, where I come from, Nirmala Bhavan High School, and Holy Angels' Convent are two leading educational institutions for only girls. These are just two names that I have taken. There are numerous others.

In my opinion, india does not spend enough time considering women to be a major resourse for the country. Although women are weaker strength wise than man they are every bit as smart. Smart drives and economy.
